Advice: Save you money up and do right by that piece of walnut.
How thick is the walnut? Can you resaw it into a front & back? If so, then a contrasting core might be nice - alder, or maple perhaps. Or even basswood, if weight is a concern.

OK, still, what wood would go well with the walnut for a body?
So I am going to buy a nicer neck, but I don't have the money now. I am building the body in my wood shop class at school next semester, and that is my only chance to build it because I can't afford tools. So, could i build the bass with my current neck and then sway it out in the future for a better neck since it is a bolt on?
