What would you do? Fender vs MM

I bought a rad chrome 80s mountain bike stupid cheap with the intent of flipping it. Fixed it up, rode it a bit to test my worksmanship.. Darn it if I didn't wind up taking it in lieu of my nicer newer touring bike for a week in CO and then riding it in lieu of any of my far nicer bikes most of the rest of the year!

If you haven't bonded with that Stingray, dump it, you might bond with that Miller.

Keep the Stingray. I love jazz basses, bu t the only Marcus Miller jazz I ever played felt like a giant boat anchor.
yep, on the other hand my '00 stingray is just 8 lbs , as much as my '08 am. std. jazz bass.

Me? I love Stingrays.

But in your case it sounds like you’re really after a Jazz. My only thought is to stick with your plan of selling the Stingray for profit and buying a USA Jazz. They’re a dime a dozen used. I wouldn’t take that Marcus Miller - you’d be throwing away the tidy profit for an ok bass that’s the first to come along.

Can you play the Marcus first? I’ve played a few. One was magic, one was a disaster, a couple others were kind of in between. I didn’t end up with the magic one because I don’t dig the look.

I’ve got an active J style and a
Stingray. I find the J more versatile, but the Ray brings the stank in a way the J won’t.

I would make the MM Jazz trader bring the bass and $250 to the table. Done deal and everybody should be happy. And yes I would do this deal if I were in your place.

One caveat - if you got the Stingray SUPER cheap, it is probably stolen. In which case you should be very cautious flipping it. Only you know the story behind it but something to consider.

You should sell the MusicMan and wait for a deal on an American JB which should be the same value as what you will get for the MusicMan.

I have both basses (though my MusicMan is a SUB US) and I totally get what is appealing in one or the other but the Marcus is one specific Jazz that has specific "issues" to consider if you really want a Jazz :

- It has a 70's bridge pickup spacing
- The stock electronic could be better
- The passive mode doesn't have a Tone knob contrary to classic Jazz

Hope it will help you to decide
