Just got word that a club owner,who my former band has played for many times,will not hire my new band because of some things my former bandmates have been telling her. I got this straight from her in a Facebook message. As far as I'm concerned,if they are telling her lies,and it's preventing my band from getting work,I should take legal action. What course of action should I take?

Yeah, talk her and do it in a professional way. Maybe call ahead of time, arrange a meeting at the place. If the place has a bar, order a soda or something. That gives you at least one whole drinks worth to communicate with her. Show her your good side and she might start to disbelieve what the others have said.

Knowing who you are, and your relationship with your previous band mates... Do you have any clue as to what they might of said? Perhaps you can prepare yourself for something and have your story worked out.

I was fired from the band almost a year ago, for reasons still unknown.None of them would tell me. I always showed up early for gigs,and rehearsals. Played exactly what was required. Bought equipment for the band to use,promoted tha band,etc.. Still to this day,I don't know why I was let go. I played in this ladys club dozens of times with the band, so she knows me and my reputation as a good bassist and better person. But,after being let go, she says that my name came up a few times,and that it would be best not to book the new band. But,she can't say what was said,or who said it specifically. I know for a fact that the band leader lover to poor mouth ex band members. So that is what he has been doing. And it is preventing me from getting my band booked. I'm trying to find out if I have any legal options I have to get this to stop.

I can't see where you have any grounds to take legal action. Defamation of character would be the only route I know of, but that has a really high standard of proof of damage attached to it, besides, anything negative said about you has to be utterly false and truly damaging. If there is any shred of truth to what the BL is saying, or if it's merely general dislike, you have no grounds whatsoever. Example; what if, just throwing this out there, the BL told her you ______ [fill in the blank with anything another person might not like about you]. That's enough for her to decide not to hire you, and it's not defamation of character. There's no law against not liking someone, fair or not.

Take the others' advice; talk to her calmly and try to sell yourself despite the BL's poor mouthing. Unfortunately, you got involved with someone who isn't nice. Sorry. :(

Another story that does not make sense.unless your 17 years old you know why they let you go. None of this I don't know to this day why they let you go.

It might not have been your fault, but you need face what ever it was.

Huh? He told us that he doesn't know why he was fired. Heck, he doesn't even seem upset that he was let go. He's just mad because his last band has been talking bad about him and now he's unable to land gigs at a place because of their badmouthing.
