What year did you start playing bass?

Started out playing 5-string banjo when I was about 8 or so. Got a chance to mess around with my Grandpa’s mid 60s Italian made Vox violin bass when I was a teenager, but didn’t get serious until about 1999 when I purchased a Squire Affinity P-bass starter pack that came with a little 15 watt amp. I must’ve been about 20 or 21 at the time. First song I learned was either Crazy Train or More Than a Feeling; I cannot remember for sure, it was a whirlwind time back then.

1978, at age 20, but...I took 2000 through 2010 off (wrist issues), and at the age of 52, i restarted - pretty much from scratch. Now, 11 years later (closing in on 12), I'm playing better than ever, and playing bigger gigs than ever before. It's never too late (unless they're nailing the lid shut).

In 1980, I was 26, but had been playing guitar since I was around 13. In 1980 I bought a used Aria jazz and got with three different groups of musicians and soon started playing in little bars and improved greatly over the years. I am gigging in Englewood, FL right now and have shows Saturday and Sunday in our hometown of Sebring.
