What year did you start using the internet ?

'92 when I started grad school and was told I needed a computer. My one website other than Westlaw was the primitive-by-today's-standards Prodigy Packer Forum where we had great debates on whether Brett Favre would ever make it as a star in the league. One guy argued incessantly for two years that Ty Detmer should be the started and was better than Favre. Time told the story on that one.

This sums it up for me definitely: Someone gave me a laptop with a intergrated modem. I immediately signed up for AOL.. that was Feb 1997. I'd sit there for 16-hours at a time in those early sessions! Ugh! I sure don't miss that compulsion to be on-line ALL the time.. :hmm:

1991, when I got to college. 1200 baud, or 2400 if lucky. Mostly, emailed friends from High School, played nethack, read & wrote to newsgroups and email lists. There was a bass mailing list called The Bottom Line, that was pretty good at the time. As I was graduating college, web browsers started to exist, but I didn't see the point (since there was almost no content on the web).

I've been using computers since I think about 4 years old (1991) my dad was/is a programmer and he always had at least 2 or 3 in the house. Im not sure when I started using the internet but it was definently before 93, I think our first internet service was erols..though we might have had something before that, I pretty much just played little games like number munchers and this game called castles2 or whatever (I hated dos I always forgot the commands) until 96 when I got diablo man that was awesome. I've got to be one of the first kids raised on computers.

In late 1994. I was doing some free lance design work for a video game developer. They bought me my first Mac (66 mgh) and a modem. There were no ad banners on the internet and Yahoo boasted "18,000 pages on file."

There were numerous ISP services available to me in San Francisco, but the rest of the crew back in Detroit actually had to dial in long distance to New York because there was no local ISP service available in Detroit.

I was working at Silicon Graphics, at the time. 1989. Long before the eternal September. By then I'd been using inter company email for a few years.

You kids today, with your GUIs, and your browsers. Why in my day we accessed email, and Usenet from a command line. And we were glad to have them.

Al Gore? Feh! I invented email back in the '70s. I dialed (yes DIALED) the phone, and jammed the receiver in the cradle, of my dads 30 characters per second, TI silent 700 terminal (no screen, thermal paper only,) and proceeded to log in to an illegal account on my high schools main frame. Upon discovering that all my files were gone, and that someone else was using the account, I sought to send a message. But how? I created a series of files, as follows: 1you, 2will, 3die. When the mystery user typed "cat" for a list of files on the account, there was my message, in alpha, numeric order.
