The character was creepy. It was off-putting. Gene Wilder's Wonka had a darkness. There was something weird about him. But it wasn't creepy or uncomfortable.

I tried to watch that a couple different times. I couldn't get into it. Sometimes people try too hard, and it felt that way to me. I still prefer the original and never tire of watching it.

Didn't finish it yet, but it's funny. Reminds me a little of high school comedies of '80s.
I'd say that Clerks III is a fan service rather than a movie in it's own right. Still, it was fun.
In real life, a stoic/depressed person stares off into the distance dead faced and silent. It doesn't work in movies. I hate when they do that. The movie didn't suck, but there was too much of it. And the accent inconsistency across the board takes me right out of it. Napoleon speaks with an American accent. Other French characters speak with English accents. The Belgians and Russians speak with non specific accents with rolled Rs. Also takes me right out it.
Clerks III
How much longer is Kevin Smith going to keep recycling the same material? The original is 30 years old next year.
I felt like it suffered for the opposite reason; way too much material to fit the runtime. What was Egypt? A minute, if that? I'm interested to see the 4 hour edit but even that is really not enough. Looking forward to seeing the Spielberg production as that's set to be a miniseries in the model of Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Masters of the Air and, even more interestingly, reworking the materials developed by Kubrick (his project was scrapped after the Italian-Soviet production of Waterloo tanked - still an amazing production with 17,000 costumed extras so that sections of the battle were done 1:1 with actual numbers).
Still, the best Napoleon film (IMO, at least) remains Abel Gance's 1927 version (and that has a 330 min runtime - there was even a 9 1/2 hour cut...) and the "Triptych" climate scenes (shot with 3 synchronized cameras and projected with 3 synchronized projectors on 3 screens - obviously severely limiting the venues were it could be seen as intended but amazing for the time).
Just saw "Poor Things" with 'lil Ms. Lotsanumbers, and... it is visually stunning and has an ending I adore, but it is otherwise lady "Fear And Loathing," where I am absolutely invested in the visuals and also just want it to end because I stopped caring at about the 90min point and the characters and story are 15th fiddle. Still... good!
