What's a good fretless for $250 or under?

Sure, people are different, that's kinda the reason why I made that comment - the potential buyer should know and take into account all factors. I personally disliked the neck dive but liked the tone. My friend who owned that Squier VM Fretless couldn't care less about the neck dive but complained about the mids (in response, I suggested favoring the bridge pickup slightly and adjusting the technique.)

Squier VM fretless (used)

guitarcenter.com - used gear - gear search - keyword: squier fretless - national search. Call the shop(s) that has(have) them. Ask about condition. Is the neck straight? Any problems with the bass? More than likely, someone who isn't familiar with the fretless bought it then decided it's not for them. Have them ship it in a gig bag (which you'll have to pay for), then return the gig bag at your local GC for a refund.

I see one for $150, and another for $200, and a couple for > $200.

I bought a Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V from GC in Madison WI and had it shipped to KC for $10. It was in like new condition.

The Warwick Rockbass fretless are probably very nice and more money (and none are currently avail used on GC). The Squire is an excellent "classic" fretless for the money.

I went to the Mister Money and they had 2 Squier basses that were both missing a string, a pricision, were black, and were around $100, but I'm not a big fan of P basses. I have one and it's ok, but it wasn't quite what I expected.

Everything rondomusic puts out is great stuff. I almost bought that web825 fretless actually, but ended up getting a brice 6 string from them for 325(an absolutely amazing buy). Google reviews on it, they all give the bass around a 7-8/10 with the ability to reach a 9/10 if you put some work into it.

My son has a Brice HXB-405 in spalted maple (veneer, at least) that I bought him off the TB classifieds. The previous owner did a few minor upgrades and it plays beautifully and sounds great. I don't much like narrow string spacing, but I think it comes in fretless, as well.

I've heard that getting a Rondo shipped to Buzzard's for a once-over and setup, then taking delivery is money well spent.

Well, at under $250, you'll be buying another cheap bass. I'd recommend playing what you have until you can save up about $500, then buy a used Fender Jazz of some sort. Fender does make a Squier (note spelling) Jaco bass. I imagine that would be about as good as it gets at your price point.

Dude, if you want best value for cheap, classi vibe squire is the only way to go. Parts are cheaply made, but you can replace them over time. They are making stuff that sounds better and better each year. I think its your best option. Go for it. Just like the picture above. It will serve great to learn the ways of f-less until you are ready to move on to something more high end. Good luck!!!
