The patience I once had for selling used gear.
Seriously, selling SUCKS right now. The economy is all kinds of awful, but nowhere do I witness it more firsthand than when trying to pawn off unused music equipment, and hey, I carried on sans job for a full year. Musicians are traditionally part of the Effing Broke Class, and there's just nobody lining up for anything beyond absolute necessities it would seem. Even rare pieces don't command nearly the high $$$ they once did. It's frustrating, and as such, I'm currently sitting on more gear than I've ever owned in my 22 years of self-tuneful-service. Oh sure, I could launch everything tomorrow at 70% off, but who wants to do that unless they are literally selling things to pay past-due rent?
Granted, as a buyer, this is mostly a good thing, since haggling definitely favours those with cash in hand, and there are a million deals out there, even on new stuff. However, anything I buy these days I have to either a) plan on taking an absolute bath when it sells or b) keeping it forever. Given that I have less free money floating about these days this makes me even more of a savvy purchaser, but at the same time, I've grown into a cheap dick. I suppose this is that no-longer-mythical slippery slope I heard about during tymes of olde. Oh well, at least I still tip 20% at the local feeding establishments.
Anyhow, I'm not apologizing for this rant. If you made it this far, don't blame me.
