What's in your TL-606?

My Mesa 215 is loaded w/the 400W RMS EVM-15L Pro Lines. It's got hella punch and clarity for a 215, more so than any other I've tried thus far. Great midrangy band mix sound, but not as thunderous in the lows as their intimidating appearance might suggest.

My Mesa 1516 had a blown Peavey Scorpion in it when I bought it. I recently replaced that w/an EVS-15S. It has the same 400W RMS power handling as the Pro Lines in the other Mesa, but from what I was told the EVS-15S is more in line w/the Invalid Link Removed. Supposedly it's just an OEM Proprietary version used in some Dynacord subs (and possibly other speakers as well). It seems to match up very well to my ear w/a li'l more thunder to it... but what do I know, I'm just a bass player... NOT a speaker design guru/genius like others here. I just snagged it off of fee-bay cuz it was going for a paltry sum of $50 + shipping.

My next set of cabs will be built around a pair of EVM-18B's I plan to recone to 8Ω Pro Line specs I've got en route... either some TL-505's or (more likely) TL-405's. The plans seems simple enough and I've got a neighbor w/a table saw and cabinet building exp. to help me out.

I built a 606 a couple months ago and loaded up a 3015. Changed the plan a bit and made the port 3" high instead of 2". On advice from speaker cab guru passingwind. By the bathroom scale I have 45 lbs.

Total cost about $210 most of that was the driver @ $150+/-, the rest for handles, grill cover, speakon parts, paint.

I believe I could shave a few pounds by dropping some of the internal bracing, which is overkill. I use 3 biscuits on each glue edge, plenty stong.

I love the sound! I had the pair of 3015's in a 2-15 Peavy cab, close on the dimensions, but they sounded like they where choked, and not breathing fully.

The next box (#2) got glued up yesterday and I'll be leaving a lot of the bracing out. Can't wait to get them both hooked up.

I have a well equipped shop so this is an easy 8 hour project for me, lots of scrap wood laying around.

I've made four gigs with it. The sound is clear, defined and fat, and there's no distortion or strange vibrations at very loud levels ( a Thunderfunk 750 at full volume ).

The only thing I think that can be improved it's the midrange and treble dispersion ( I imagine with a mid driver and a horn, or maybe only with the horn ), but with more money and weight... In a loud gig tilting the cab it's a very good solution...

Overall it's a very good cabinet, I'm replacing with it a Phil Jones Neo 12B and a Schroeder 1212l...

I've finally received the second 3015 ...loaded it in the cabinet and wow ...... the sound is great, with 2, 3015's in these old boxes ...anybody who is on the fence in buying these speakers ... it's really a good improvement , over the EVM-15B , soundwise & powerwise, played this weekend with the 2 -15's and my Bassman 1200 and couldn't have been happier with the sound ...need to check out the sound with my V-4B

Now, now... You just leave that 'ol EV15B alone. I liked my 15B so much that I replaced it with a 3015 to both gain more Xmax, power, and to ease replacement should something happen.

That ol 15 is packaged safely in my closet where the tone and original cone will be preserved. It nails vintage SO well that I would hate to see anything happen to it.

EDIT: Rebiased my amp and now it sounds even better! Almost exactly like my 15B

I have a Joe's TL-606 thing loaded with an EV DL15X. It goes under an Avatar B-212 (ceramics), and sounds pretty good carrying an SWR SM-400, old version of that amp.

Would you guys say that a 3015 or 3015 LF would be a markable improvement over the DL15X?

Here's my 2 cents worth, I'd say go with the 3015, there was a thread some time ago, where some one bought a 3015LF & a 3015 and at the end of the day it was said, that he should of gotten 2-'s 3015, I believe the 3015LF is more designed for a P.A. low end , I have no experience with that particular EV driver, but with the 3015 you can run them harder without the break-up that the 200 watt EVM15B, would do ...all in all, I think it's just an improvement over 20 some year old speakers

As I recall from the original documentation (which I still have somewhere), the closing of the center port was to be done in conjunction with putting an EV-made EQ inline that would take the response down another half-octave from the 55hz tuning. I'm thinking this would be similar to what Bag End was doing at the time.

The plans that are in the Telex archives mention this EQ, but doesn't give details of the specific frequencies. My plans are older than the one in the Telex archive, so maybe I can find out something.
