How much should this one go for?

The only thing that bothers me is the jazz pickup. I really don't like PJ config... but I am crazy about fretless precisions.

I paid around the same price as that 78 (converted to $ from euro at current rates) for mine, but it was mint with original covers and case and I felt I overpaid a bit - but I wanted the bass and they wouldn't budge on price so...

Given your location I could see the pricing being a little higher than in the states, so the price on the 78 might be fair - though given the mods you might be able to negotiate a little.

Bonjour Rene

First off, both basses have little appreciating value in terms of resale. It's important to some people.

Second, the second bass is not the stock body. I have a 75 fretless maple precision and that tint is not Fender.

However, it is a pbass, with what looks to be a legit maple neck.

European prices for mid to late 70's fretless precisions are steep. Arguably steeper than those listed if they're original.

If I was facing this decision, I'd be considering these options:

1. Look for a legit 70's fretless pbass online and ship it across. You can resell for much more.

2. Buy a precision of any type and buy a fretless neck from Warmoth and slap it on.

3. Buy one of the two and look for a used legit Fender body and put the neck on it.

And it's not the first time we encounter each other on this forum... although the first time we had a fight about an issue in OT. :D


I already have the Tony Franklin fretless precision bass, so I don't need one out of urgency. (Plus I have some nice boutique fretlesses.) I'm just watching out for a nice vintage original bass.


I really like the first one I linked, the '78. The very first fretless precision from '69 or '70 are the same color as this one with maple fingerboard... ?? Not sure.
Perhaps if I can get him down to 900 €, would that be a good deal?
Only thing that bothers me is the jazz pickup. Maybe I should make an appointment with this seller and see it for real.


The second one is definately not original according to you, so not worth 1000 €. I'll pass on that one.

I know there is a shop in Antwerp that has a selection of vintage basses, I'll keep watching their stock.


I also like the idea of a Warmoth neck on a cheap precision bass. I really like the Squier CV50 P. Had it, sold it, maybe look for a used one and get a fretless neck.
But that's not a priority right now. I can do that any time and I have great fretless basses already.
