Double Bass What's on your stand? Edgar Meyer...

This weekend's concert features Edgar Meyer performing Bottesini, plus his own concerto in D. (Provided the affair isn't called off on account of the Coronavirus panic.)

Edgar arrived for rehearsal yesterday. He took a few moments to visit with the section and chat. He's a very cordial fellow and really took an active role in rehearsing and directing the ensemble with the conductor. (Owing to the fact that he's also the composer.)

Because of a personnel redux on the concerti, I was free to take a few snaps of the rehearsal, including some closeups of Edgar's gear for some general TB geekery. If we have more time to chat Saturday, I'll try to ask some more about his bass. It's smallish; the body looks like it could almost pass for a 5/8, but I don't know the string length. It has a beautifully carved round back.

Incredible player! I wish he played more jazz and bluegrass stuff that he occasionally dabbles in, instead of the big focus on classical music.

I didn't mean the output jack. That's pretty obvious.
Please have a look at the E string ball end. It seems to be on the other end of the tailpiece and I cannot see, how it is attached in that position, or what the purpose of this is.

You have to zoom in really far, but then you can see it clearly.

I also think it's a fine tuner, and I'd really like to know where he got it because I've been looking for one for a while now.

(Maybe it's a home-brewed device.)

When I had an extension, I used a fine tuner that, I think Rene Zaal made. I'm not totally sure about this.
It was made of brass, much bigger and much more visible. So I'm also really curious.
