I found this Vantage VP710B local today:thumbsup:. Someone ripped out the frets and the bridge was warped. I had a new plate and put it on and will re-fret it:bassist:. Other then that it is in real clean shape:hyper:.

Soft zinc alloy bridge plate and really high saddles making for a sharp break angle. Here's the original saddles mounted in the new plate. Next to it is one of the new saddles that is much shorter. I'll try the originals first and may switch to the lower saddles if I think it's best.

Wow - that seems unusual but it's good you had a replacement. It's interesting that the body was routed for insetting the bridge. I've found that resurrecting vintage basses comes down to sorting-out the frets. (to make it playable) On my last resurrection projects - that was the largest percentage of labor, but once done makes a potentially WCS neck playable. More of a triage situation as more input wouldn't be "cost effective".

The original bridge has really tall saddles so the bridge sat "in" the body. I decided eventually to use the lower saddles of the new bridge to reduce the angle over it (maybe prevent damage to the bridge) and just raise it up a little. As it is now the bridge is pretty low to the body with the string height set nicely. Haven't decided what to do with the bass yet. I got it to try playing fretted again but still find frets annoying.

I just recently brought out the Dremel (from '88), to do some finer work on a project. Works just like the day I bought it.

The Space Station is almost complete, but seating is limited, so make your reservation today!

There is so much to like on this thread! It's a perfect read for an ADD person.

My garage smells like router motor and sawdust.

I'm doing a major overhaul on a bass. Would the proper subforum for a "rebuild" thread be the LC, or Setup & Repair? I'm sure I'll have questions that you guys can best help with, and I'd rather see it here, but I don't want to post in the wrong place.

I think any time you pull out a router it's gonna be the LC. You've moved beyond "setup" at that point. ;)

I started playing fretless out of necessity:eyebrow: at an early age and developed a playing style that is close to the fingerboard so adjusting to frets is really difficult for me:rollno:. If you heard a recording of me I don't sound like I'm playing a fretless at all:bassist:. On a fretted I just make way too much noise:mad::spit:.
