You can get the luminescent powder in all different colors at an art supply store. It's very simple to make your own dots with the powder and CA glue. My late buddy Mike Lipe made luminescent side dots that way on his guitars for years. He had me make up little aluminum sleeves to add a silver ring around the outside for extra class. He'd drill the hole in the neck, set in the aluminum sleeve, mix up the powder and CA glue, and dab it in there. That was about it. File it off smooth and polish. He bought the little charging flashlights somewhere online.

You can also pre-cast the dots yourself, rather than buy the expensive stock from Luminlay. Make up a silicone mold with a bunch of little cylindrical cavities. Mix the luminescent powder with epoxy, or CA glue, or some other clear resin. Pour it in the mold, and pop out little cylindrical luminescent dots of whatever size you want.
Thought that would be the case.
 
One other note about do-it-yourself luminescent side dots:

The volume of the dot determines how bright it is. The more quantity of powder is in there, the more light is retained and reflected out. Larger diameter means brighter. For a given dot diameter, the deeper it is, the brighter it will be.

That's the main reason why the purchased Luminlay dot stock is brighter than many home-made attempts. A shallow blob of CA glue won't have the depth and volume of a small cylinder of the Luminlay dot stock. Drill deeper and get some volume of luminescent resin down in there. Or pre-cast your own cylinders, and install them like normal dots.

Had some scrap wood laying around from some shelves I made for my house, so I made a small pedalboard for my guitar rig. Don't need much. It's the same size as a pedal train nano+.

Once assembled, I took a torch to it, and am currently putting on a few layers of clear coat.

Mr. Forstner did his bit.

Yes, for the quickest removal of a lot of wood, it's hard to beat a Forstner bit. I've done comparison tests, and a Forstner bit is faster than a hand router or a milling machine. Only a big pin router can beat it.
 
I guess this should be on the "what's on your wife's workbench" thread, but I thought you'd guys enjoy this.

My wife makes cutting boards and breadboards. She often uses offcuts from my bass builds. Can you tell this one was a cutoff from a neck? :) the one on the right is the bottom end of a board I used for a top. It's too small for me to really use it in a build.

I've recently jumped into making my own fretboards. Got the lMII jig and templates, ordered a 9.5 inch radius beam and made a sled for sanding the radius. After nearly finishing my first board I can honestly say my hands hurt from pushing that chunk of aluminum back and forth. So after a quick trip th the hardware store I think I came up with a solution, seems much easier to work now.

Those are beautiful! Cool to have a mate who enjoys sawdust.

Great idea! I could benefit from that too...
 
Make a router radiusing jig! It took me less time to make it than to sand a single fretboard to radius and now I can radius a board in about 30 seconds!

I have to do stuff like this, my arthritis is getting bad enough that I can't do much sanding. Thank goodness for all the ideas I'm absorbing on this forum to make more use of power tools and less use of my fingers.
 
Ok Will - so what's going on here? Stencil?
I layed a vent cover, the yellow and purple rectangle in the back, over the body and sprayed through it. The less "focused" areas are where it wasn't flat on the body, and the racing stripe/forearm area is where it wasn't big enough so the edge border masked a line. It's kind of like a lofi version of a lace paint job (which is something I want to do in the future)

On the neck (BG and post 983) I masked the fretboard and a central "skunk stripe" on back of the neck painted the headstock solid and dusted the shaft took the masking tape off the skunk stripe and lightly dusted so it resemembled the rest of the bass.
