what's that bass line ?

8/10

I missed December 1963 - The Four Seasons

And for some reason I missed Message in a Bottle, even though I've been covering that song for years and can play the bassline in my sleep.

I call BS on Message in a Bottle. Judging by the number of people who missed this one, I suspect the quiz version of it is less than accurate.

9/10 not really a Journey fan, and the Barney Miller was a fluke guess lol. The Police one IS correct, I have the proper transcription book for a bunch of Police songs, and we used to play that one aaages ago! the phrasing to my ear is wrong though, Sting plays the 1st two notes very quick almost merging.....thats what I hear anyway

I got Barney Miller 'cos it definitely wasn't any of the other 3!!.

Message in a bottle is correct - it just sounds strange without the rest of the band showing where the beat is.

To those who thought December '63 was called "Oh what a night", perhaps they can give us the correct titles for the following :-):

Look at me
Just 17
Memories
JoJo

10/10

They should have thrown that Grandmaster Flash and Beastie Boys in there, they would have tripped up a few I'm sure. Still, process of elimination would have worked.

"Day Tripper" was an octave low.

"Play That Funky Music" was not the bass line, it was the guitar tag line.

"Message In A Bottle" might seem wrong without the syncopation, but I think it is was right.

Only got "message in a bottle" by excluding other possibilities as less likely.

"Who is Barney Miller?" I thought every bassist copped that one along with the "night Court" theme. I must be too old :)

+ 1 on the "Message In A Bottle" line (just goes to show how much feel can have to do with how a line sounds).

+ 1 on "Play That Funky Music". Strangely enough, very few people seem to realise that it's the guitar playing that intro.

Still got 10/10 though. :smug:
