Never get dragged into a situation where you take weekly lessons every week for $40+ an hour. After 2 months you will be learning very little at each lesson, at least as a beginner. Go to a new teacher, and it will be completely new! Once you get in a rut with him/her, take a break from the lessons, or go back to the old guy.
It worked with me very well in my classical guitar days.
Just something to think about.
This might work well for some, but I don't think its very good advice. I think its far more valuable to work with one teacher for a few years before moving on (unless, of course, its not a good match or they're not a good teacher!). Ruts are invaluable learning tools, and working your way out of them is a skill you will need in any venture you undertake for your whole life.
