What's the best modification you've made?

For me it’s a tie between the Trebel Bezel for a 4003, or Dunlop dual-design strap locks. And for the record, those are presently the only mods on basses I currently have. (I don’t consider replacing the pickguard with a factory pickguard of another color to be a mod)

Strap locks is not a mod either...

At the time, I thought the Badass bridge and second pickup on my Fender P was a good idea. Now I see what an original condition 1975 P-Bass is selling for I can see that it was a financial mistake. I've since seen wellknown bassists playing a variety of basses and getting the same (or similar) tone out of each. Just watch Andy Irvine's videos for instance. The tone is in your fingers!

i'm still experimenting. there are a lot of different kinds of foam and all sound different. then there is felt which i think may be superior. that's why they use it on pianos.

I fitted a Seymour Duncan quarter pound split coil p pickup on my Squier Jaguar short scale bass and now it's actually usable as an instrument, those stock ones are horrendous lol.

I’m back and forth about whether to buy one of these. I don’t want it to change the sound of my favorite bass ever. Can someone please give me some hand-holding reassurance everything will be OK?

It'll be OK. There are no modifications needed to install one of these...just remove the original tuner, put it in your case or another safe place, and install the D-Tuner in its place. If you don't like it you may remove it and reinstall the original tuner. Just be sure to purchase a D-Tuner that matches your original tuners and the screw holes will line up.

Best Mod I ever done was on my Ibanez BTB1605 bass when installing Nordstrand DC5 pickups, Aguilar OBP-3 Preamp, and custom D-Cline knobs. That bass was seriously as good as any Boutique level bass I've owned 3-4 times the cost

Update:

"Frankie" as my Frankenstein-esque collection of parts was dubbed, worked, sounded and felt great at rehearsal last night. I may just keep it as it is in all it's "rat rod" glory. I plan on gigging it next Saturday.

Nice, but I got my wires crossed. I'm a newbie bass player. I thought you had a chopped up Hofner beatle bass lol. I want one because they must be nice and light. Your bass looks great.

Thanks, but I'm not sure what you mean. I did chop up a Hofner for the neck. It took three passes on my bandsaw and the violin body was history.

lol, you bandsaw madman. i came across an old beatle viola bass type a while ago. neck was as twisted as my mind. had huge chrome pickups and switches and knobs sticking out all over the place. Ugly as a 57 Chevy, I wanted it badly. It didn't work out tho. He sold it before I could get there.

I have an Ibanez sr400 and always loved the looked and hated the sound. When the active pickups started acting up it was time for an overhaul. Replaced active pickups with Geezer passive emg’s. Replaced the bridge with a Leo Quan badass bass bridge ll. Also sanded off the finish on the back of the neck and rounded the edges of the neck to the fretboard. Holy cow what a difference all this made. I love this bass so much now. It’s a whole new animal.

Put a quarter pounder in my/my partners SS jag too! Sounds great. I actually never even tried the stock ones before taking them out.
