What's the fastest neck out there?

Far and away the fastest necks I have ever played have all been on Fodera Monarch 4-strings. Thin neck profiles, strung with 40-60-80-100 Fodera Nickel strings, super low action (3/64ths above the 24th fret on the G-string) and that deliciously smooth satin Fodera finish on the backs of the necks...I have played many, many other basses and nothing comes close...

+1, I find the Monarch pretty quick for some reason.

Depends on what ya mean by fast. Some just mean thin, some mean a non-sticky surface, some mean low action, and any given combination.

To me, speed is 1/3rd technique, 1/3rd meticulous set-up, and 1/3rd good construction.

Right on. I allways get anoyed when people think they need a toothpick ibanez neck to play fast.

A good bass that had a decent setup and trained hands is all you need to play as fast as is pleasant to the ear.

Ever since I've seen that video of NHOP and joe pass playing donna lee at about 320bpm I knew that you didn't need a skinny neck to play to fast for you own good.

I'd like to see anyone do that, even on a "fast" neck.
