What's the first bass line you learned?

It's one of the first lines I play when I pick up a new to me bass.
Mine was a standard blues shuffle taught to me by my then 14 yo son. I know it by SRVs version of So excited.

I started playing bass when I was 13 years old and was in a band that only played original material, no covers, for at least the first two or three years. So none of y'all would recognize the names of the first bass lines I learned, hell I can barely remember the song titles!

I think the first cover bass line I learned was Grand Funk Railroad's "We're An American Band" ...and I had to learn it on the fly: My group (the ^^^above-mentioned original band) was playing a local school fair and the other band on the bill had a flakey bass player who kept wandering out of the auditorium. At one point their singer came running up to me and said "Do you know 'We're An American Band'? We have to go on now and our bass player is nowhere to be found!"

By the third verse I pretty much had it down. And halfway through the second tune (a blues shuffle iirc) the other bass player magically appeared, so I didn't get a chance to learn any more tunes on the fly that day.

1966: i played sax at the time but i went to a jam where the bassist really wanted to sing turn, turn, turn... so he asked me to play the tune on his EB-O, "it's simple, i'll show you."

i just listened to the tune to refresh my memory and make this post: i'm sure i didn't play the actual bass part for that tune, but whatever he showed me must have worked because i remember going over the tune too many times while he and the others worked on vocal/guitar and drum parts. i thought it was boring and would have rather played something 'hipper' so that i could play the saxes i brought to the jam. that wasn't the first time i ever played/messed with an EB, but it's the first time i can remember playing a complete piece, such that it was, on the instrument.

my first DB experiences were later (my 20s) and my first tunes were jobim tunes: easy enough because the BL had all the parts written and they were relatively easy tunes to play anyway.
