I've asked around how to get this kind of tone:



The usual response is 'it's in the fingers' or 'how you play it.' Now I fully understand the tone aspect of what she's doing as far as playing near the bridge, how to attack the strings, what kind of strings, etc, all that doesn't add up to what I am asking.

There's a certain 'farty-ness' to this sound that really is what I am after. It sounds like some sort of overdrive at some point in the chain, maybe an amp, or hopefully a pedal could do this? I like the warmth and growl it makes, and I would love to figure out what I am missing!!

I figured my friends here would be more helpful in this than others have been!
 
Sounds like low action, SS strings, played on the bridge pickup

Nobody ever wants to hear the whole "tone is in the fingers" thing, but it's true. They always want it to be more complicated than that.
Exactly. There is no effect being run. Bridge pickup being favored, a modern-style bass with SS strings, and lots of talent.
