I also really like the South Korean band Jambinai, which uses a mix of traditional and modern instruments to play some pretty heavy postrock/metal. You'll see Korean versions of most of the east Asian instruments people are posting in this thread.
iirc the core band members are graduates of South Korea's School of Traditional Arts; in concert they could probably interrupt their rocking out to put on a credible performance of classical court music.

I found another site claiming Elwood's bass has 18 strings. They probably counted the tuners on top of the headstock and doubled it. There are actually 9 on top and 8 on the bottom.
I'd also say "Mothman" but no one has ever called Mothman "wacky" and not come to harm so I won't say "Mothman."

Every time I've seen one of those type multistrings the low bass strings flap around with little tension.
The B'thole Surfers' version will cure that.
Mickey Hart used a similar Beam (actually, a couple different versions, the link has a history with descriptions and photos) in the Grateful Dead and his own performances and recordings.
During a Drums section of a Dead show, unfortunately without footage.

But you missed an opportunity with your (tongue in cheek) mention of an “ordinary” piano. And really, you are spot on because even though we are used to pianos, the modern piano is pretty darn amazing. But the Bosendorfer you should have cited is this one (The Imperial) with 97 keys!!! Now THAT is amazing!
