I would have to imagine there are many folks who pump more than 200w into the 1x15 SVT cabs with no problems at all.

Whats up with Ampeg's 15" cabs?

ok everyone, I just got back from guitar center and saw that they have an SVT 15E new for only 299!. I plugged in an ibanez SR506 through a Ampeg B2RE and really liked the sound, the low B was rumbly at higher volumes, but not really boomy. I cant decide if I should sell off a 410 in order to get it. Im not sure how my current rig will handle a low B either. I plan on getting that SR506 in the near future, and I want my rig to be able to handle the range of a sixer.

You may be aware that Ampeg did in fact offer the 115 cab with an optional Altec 418-8H Series II driver in the seventies.
Luckily I still have a pair in the studio.
Not for the lightweight boys this thing, it was rated at 150 watts had a Huge Alloy Frame and a magnet big enough to influence the path of passing comets.
One is as loud to the ear at moderate volume, in parallel with my Eden 8 X 10 LXT cab also 8 ohm.
So it must be very Efficient
!, for one fifteen to be as loud?!
It has a fantastic tone and responds really fast with a tingling brightness and upper mid openness the eden hasn't, Its got no tweeter just an alloy dome center cap.
Well Bill F,M will say it has no response off axis, thats true!, but my mic don't know that cos it isn't off axis.
Maybe it wont trigger seismic shifts in the earths tectonic plates but it sounds full and fat on a b.
The thing is it records very well indeed, no it doesn't sound retro it just sounds really really good.
The old CTS Alnico 15's in the oldest flip Tops are a similar tone over power lightweight cone and voice coil type.
New Ampeg 115E's are just dull and thumpy in comparison.
Bring back lower powered wide frequency response, not just all the design in power handling and dropping the fundamental resonance to 30 HZ and all that ICE influenced bollocks, can I have 15" midrange tone so the records I make can play on a I pod and you can still hear the bass well?. Well its seems only with the very old stuff you can, without it sounding like honking geese or some mad tuba that is.

I was running a Hartke 410 cab with Delta 10 B's and a Hartke 115 bottom with an American Legend 15 @ 8 Ohms with my HA 7000. After I bought one of the last American made SVT-VR's, I couldn't get a 2 or 4 OHM load with that combo. I looked for quite some time before I found a 4 OHM 15" Eminence to toss into it. The speaker was NOS from 1992 with only half the RMS rating. Yet, the tone it makes is far superior to that of the 6 month old Legend. I finally broke down and bought a 810AV cab, after taking a bunch of crap about having a hodge-podged rig. Sometimes I miss having a 15" when I play some of this modern country on my 5 string or metal with anything more than a one step drop. I wish I could afford a second SVT-VR to run 2 15's.
