Whats up with Porcupine Tree?

Well, according to the almighty Wikipedia:

After the release and touring in support of their tenth studio album, The Incident, the band became inactive as Wilson began to focus on his solo career. While they have not broken up, they also have no particular plans beyond "someday", with members all working on separate projects, and Wilson committing himself to his solo work through most of 2013.

Yeah, the Wiki page on them includes some interview quotes to the effect that yeah, they plan to get together again, but they don't really know when, and they don't really know what kind of approach they'll take because the other guys aren't into the jazz influences that Wilson is, blah blah blah. Don't hold your breath for the next album, basically.

I saw Nick Beggs play with John Paul Jones back when Jonesy was touring in support of his album, Zooma. Beggs was actually pretty damned good, and played most of the set on Chapman Stick, but also played some acoustic guitar.

BTW, that show was Jonesy & his band opening for King Crimson! And I daresay that Crimson had their work cut out for them following Jonesy with Nick Beggs on Stick and Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello & The Attractions) on drums.

I think 'The Raven' is the best Wilson solo project he's done by far. I've not gotten into any of his other solo stuff, nor Storm Corrosion. Blackfield was pretty good though. Porcupine Tree is just on a totally different level, though. In Absentia was a game changer for me. I'd like to see them get back together, but only if the material would be as good as past PT stuff.

Love SW and PT, haven't been able to quite get into the bass on the last two solo albums though. For that matter, as much as I dig Marco Minnemann, he doesn't IMO have the dynamic range to do full justice to SW's material.

Call me biased, but Gavin Harrison can do the mellow parts better.. PT reunion please.

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks this, but..



I dunno. I prefer PT for both bass and drums personally.
