I read what you wrote about the Pro 3 and gotta say I agree with the other guys.
You can make your comments, but to come up here like people don't know what they are talking about is pretty bold. After reviewing what you have said, I am not sure you have all that much experience with that partciaular head and all the lines that it has been compared to by Ampeg ads.
Eh? say what? I'm no big Ampeg fan......but
I said that they made the power claimed....when tested.....in watts, not "sound power. I've fixed a number of various recent Ampegs, and they all made their claimed power. No sign of the hundred watt (about 25%) or whatever shortfall.
They didn't all SOUND like similar powered units, loudness-wise. I said I had no idea why those units SOUND weak.
Those are facts....
As far as "Special Ed", he claims that the particular model, and apparently most all Ampegs in general are intentionally limited somehow to far less than the published ratings "in watts".
He made the statement sound sorta broad, like that was an example, but that they are all like that.
A claim like that is what's pretty bold.....worth backing up. How does he "know" that? Seems pretty questionable to pop up and make that claim just off-the-cuff, if we are discussing "questionable"......
Not my experience of them at all......they have the power, even if it doen't sound like it gets used effectively.
Tonality....you can dislike theirs, as I do. Its a matter of "range". Yeah, maybe you can GET to a sensible clean tone, but that's at one end of the range....and sort-of-close if you aren't too fussy.
Other brands are 'centered" in a more clean neutral tone, and you "can get" to the "ampeg dark tone" towards one end of their range, but that isn't the only thing they do.
The fact that Ampeg is made by a company known in its other brands for basically bottom feeding, you can state that too. I won't argue either of those points.
As far as the "you're a newbie" thing.....well whatever....like I said, a cute symbol doesn't make something relevant.
