Whats wrong with the Ashdown Little Giant 1000?

There are no quality issues with the inside of the Ashdown LG series. The reason the LG series are being blown out is because Ashdown built too many in one hit.Mainly because they needed the cash flow. And in doing them cheap killed the market and after that, Ashdown decided to move on to big real amps.

The features of the LG series is not for every one(just like every amp is not for every player).

I own a LG1000 and I have never had an issue at all with it. I like the way it sounds and it does what it does well.

As far as reliability issues go, I have heard the stories and over 11 years of using Ashdown amps and cabs in every kind of situation imaginable I have never had a reliability issue at all.

I'm an Ashdown endorser.

Hey new to the forum, have been using the 350 watt version and have been having problem with my fan on it, sent it to be repaired once and it was only a temporary fix.

The problem is that the fan never starts up when it gets hot enough causing it to over heat and cut out, it won't start outputting until it cools down which isn't good live (has done this twice to me live)

Has anyone else had this problem? or can think of any solution

(ashdown have currently stopped replying to my requests to have it fixed even though its still in warrenty)

Thanks
Ben

...which = $350.70 USD. Additional charge of $37.71 USD to ship from Germany to the USA.

Total price $388.41 USD.

I got around 390.00 or so and decided to place an order and see what kinda call or e-mail I get re: shipping costs and VAT and other stuff. Their website says 30+or_ euro for anything under 31kg to the US which to my pea brain is about 70lbs.
No problem there. Will see tomorrow when they process this order.

So my credit card statement shows the transaction now.
352.01 to the seller Thoman, and 10.50 for foreign transaction fee, to the card company I guess. Anyone know if I am still looking at any duty fees to get it from the shipper when it arrives? Thoman's website says they calculate in VAT etc on foreign orders so I am hopin I get this 1000 watts for under 363.00 which is killer!
Thanks to the OP for the heads up.

Post man knocked today and gave me my LG1000.Shipped from Germany and here already. MF take note.
No additional fees due. 1000 watts at $363.00! rack ears too.
Silly me though, comes from Germany so the power cord is a 250 volt fused cord:hmm:
I flipped the little red switch on the back to 110 and I should be good to go with my power chords from other amps/computers etc. Right?

So I flipped the red switch on the back to 115 and bought a foreign to US plug adaptor for 10 bucks at the shack, just so I could keep using the supplied cord which is sturdy and has a fuse too! Also a fuse at the 3 prong input socket on the amp.
Bottom line is it powers my Acme B2 4 ohm cabs great with lots of eq options for 363 bucks and a 10 buck adaptor which I probably did not need. Since the manual says always use the supplied mains cord I figured I would in case any waranty issues were to come up later. Great price for an amp that powers 2 500 watt 4 ohm cabs. Fan does not even run at bedroom levels after initial start up. Gonna put it through it's paces at rehearsal tomorrow. This thing got to my west coast home in 4 days from Germany for way cheaper than any single 500 watt cab could be had here. Time will tell on reliability but the experienced TB members above made it an easy call. Thanks Murph!

Ashdown got back to me on my e-mail and said to change the fuse at the power input of the amp to t8a 250v instead of the supplied t4a fuse then use a standard US power cord.
Amp sounded good at rehearsal set flat. Band did not notice I was using anything new. (normally genz shuttlemax 12) which this was bought as a back up for.
However did get pretty warm and the fan did not turn on so I might do BFM's suggestion. If I had to guess the thermostat is set a little high. Sorry Bill is it thermistor?

Just wanted to hop in and thank Murphy for the pointer to that Thomann discount. Just ordered a LG 1000 for myself from there.

UPDATE: They would not fill this order without a copy of my driver's license and a copy of my credit card with only half the numbers masked out. Due to identity-theft concerns (relative to non-https transmission and data retention), I declined to provide this information and asked them to cancel the order. Too bad. They seem like nice people.

Thank you Oldog.
I wrote to Ashdown asking if úsing only one 8ohm cab wouldn't hurt the amp and this is the answer I received:
"Hi Fabian,

You can only connect a single 8 Ohm cab to the LG1000 withou causing any problems at all.. you just won't get the full power from the amp..
In fact you can run the amp with no speakers connected at all ( for recording, for instance )..

Regards,
Guy"

Is this common with Digital Power amp section heads/combos?
Anyway I think I'll be ordering an Ashdown Little Giant 1000 next week.
I hope it'll match nicely with the Trace Elliot 2103x I bought this week, being ashdown and trace elliot alike companies.
I really like the idea of being able to expand if I ever need to.
