Whats wrong with the Ashdown Little Giant 1000?

I have the LG1000 and was disappointed at first, like other have said where are the watts? Then I tried it with a little preamp in the FX loop and it works great. I rented out a SVT stack (SVT 3 pro (450w@4Ohms) 4*10" and 1*15") and AB'ed the heads. The Ashdown gets a lot louder than the SVT before the power amp distorts. The power amp inputs seems to be able to take a high level signal easily.

My advice is buy one or two cause they are so cheap, add a preamp (even tube preamp to warm up the sound a little bit) and you're good to go. All it needs is somewhere around 20db of gain in the fx loop...
I'll will try it as a PA amp next time I get a chance, just for fun.

I like the sound allright, it nicer than my old Peavy or than the rehearsal space Hartke L3500. I just think the EQ's band are a bit too narrow to be really useful but it's allright with me I'm not that much of an EQ guy. I'm building a 2*12" (neodyme) plus 1*4" cab to go with it. If I need to get louder I'll build a second one that I can power with the second channel.

I've not had a problem with reliablility so I don't know about that.

if i may be honist i love ashdown amps because in the uk they're really cheep and good value for money (except i dont get why we have the american ones in the uk) now i tryed the little giant and i actually noticed within a month or 2 of getting them in they were selling for basicly nothing. i tryed one because it was about the time i was looking for a amp but my problem is it didnt feel like a ashdown and for my money a ashdown should have almost perfect even distortion that is un-machable (except from 1 or 2 other amps) there was somthing about the little giant that annoyed me so i skipped it and brougt a old bassman insted.

in the uk the whole lightweight clean amps are still verry pricey and i think ashdown thought that the uk would just eat em up but the truth is that they tryed to shift to meny too quickly in a market that is still lugging around our big old tube heads on busses

The little giant is a class D amp and it is definitely a different amp. Especially in comparison to the amp models that Ashdown puts out.

As far as micro amps go. Ashdown is done with that market.


And the focus is on tube amps from ashdown. With a couple of new tube amp models on the way.

I just picked up a LG350 [ Green one ] for NZD 350 [ about 280 USD ] and while I must admit its not the most powerful thing on earth , my Trace Elliot AH200 eats it , it is a very portable amp with great EQ options ans nice quiet operation which wil be great for studio/home practice work . I wouldnt gig with it with a band , maybe an acoustic/small bar gig would be o.k . One thing though , it doesnt seem to like one of my speakon cables that seems to work on every other amp under the sun except this one , you have to jiggle it to work , i dont know if its the amp or the cable ..... any other one works fine though . Also a bit weary of the exposed fan and vents on the top .... wouldnt want to spill my beer on it !!
Overall , for the price I paid im happy as .

Sorry for resurrecting this thread but I was wondering if this amp would be a good match for my 4x10 EBS proline cab (800W at 4 Ohm). In paper it seems, okay but I'm having second thoughts about matching a high end cab with the LG 1000.

It should probably sound good and work with your cab. Whether it's a sound you like or not, who knows?

I'm reminded of hooking up the lounge hifi speakers to my Dad's cheapo clip together "boombox" he had in the bedroom for the news/breakfast in bed. You'd have sworn it was the hifi.

The tone of a bass amp can be anything but hifi. Suck it and see is the only way with any combination of amp and cab whether they are hi end or low end.

I don't think it can be done in a straight way: The LG1000 has two 500W power stages that are NOT bridgeable. So unless you can split your EBS so that you have 2 SEPARATE pairs of 8 ohms speakers, you'll be limited to 500W.

i have a little giant 1000...was a bag of nerves because something that small that pushes so much air out of my two 2x10 cabs just didnt seem right lol. anyway had it a while now and i love everything about it. great tone, great sound and by fxxk its loud ( RUNNING A 500 WATT 4 OHM CAB OUT OF EACH OF THE TWO SPEAKER OUTPUTS ) hope it doesnt break because ive owned a shed full of bass amps and honestly this is my favourite to date.
