What's Your Bass/Guitar's Name?

I play a Gibson Ripper that I named, surprise, Jack. Now, though, I just think of it as the old warhorse.

I had a buddy who referred to his bass as "my wife". Lost touch with him ... not sure if he ever married.

I used to name all my basses after girls (and ladies) that have passed through my life. That was ok the first 5 or 6. Then my current wife found out I had named a couple after 2 exes and that didnt go over so good. Spent some couch time over that. I am now up to about 30 basses and between my mad wife and memory problems I dont name them any more. ;)

Naming things is hard, I'd like to get a name for my basses, my fretless (built in high school) will forever be known as 'my baby', that won't change however I had 2 MTD's, 1 red korean 5 string and now my yellowish 6 string...so

Mustard and Ketchup.

Since I sold my MTD 5, I've been searching for another name for my 6.

No, I don't. Never really understood that naming thing. My instruments are tools with different characteristics, but I fail to see how they could be like different personalities. I have yet to find an instrument I connect with on a "deeper level". :)

Well I could consider their different characteristics being compared to different personalities, but I also have never understood the whole naming thing.

I used to borrow a buddy's '72 (or something - nobody really knows) P. Truly a monster.

Great big fat neck, maple board, Dimarzio pup & it weighs a ton.

Sounds unbelievable. A stand out. I lust after her.

Old Thunder is her name.

I say "used to borrow" because I have a brand new Highway 1 on order. She should arrive in 13 days.;)

YEEEEEHAAAAAA:hyper:

I shall call her "The War Pony".:bassist:

I've always named my basses. Right now I only have one, a 60th Anniversary Jazz that I named Denise. It's my wife's middle name and she gave me the bass for my birthday. Next one will be Elaine. My niece's middle name simply because she rules the universe.

When talking to others i usually call them the BTB, the fretless and so on.
But they have names:
Black Bitch (i was a young hardrocker then)
Black Basstard
Black Widow
Black Beast
They're all black with black headstocks.
Now i have to come up with a name for my Ibanes EWB205, which hopefully
will arrive on wednesday.

I have enough trouble naming my animals..... so I'm in the no name category.
I've got "The Fretless" "Gig bass (a 5)" "Backup Bass (another 5) "My Four String" and "My acoustic (guitar)".
Original I know.

"gig bass" might actually get named since theres a Dory decal on it now.... highly tempted to call it Dory. Although, Dory (from finding nemo) had a short attention span and the bass can hold a note out a lot longer than the guitars can (heh heh heh)...so it doesn't quite fit.

Hard to name black basses without resorting to Blackie LOL :).

my main bass is "My Bass" as in "pass My Bass" or im gonna go get My Bass.

the not main one is "My OTHER Bass". i put stress on the "OTHER" to let everyone know that i have two. so it would be "tonight im gonna use My OTHER Bass".

Yup, all my basses have names, most of them ladies'

Martina (bodo Ellio Martina bass-6)
Blondje (quilted maple on mahogany Ellio Martina fretless-6)
Moeke (blue dyed Spruce on maple PHB fretless-6)
Morrie (red dyed Cherrywood PHB fretted-6)
Bertha (after Big Bertha) (3/4 double bass)
De Stok (PHB stick)
Emerald-8 (PHB green dyed fretted-8)

My wife calls it my "hareem" :smug:

Peter

All mine are female names, though I have not found a name for my valenti yet. The Hondo's are Mary and Miriam. I think. It's a little hard to keep strait nowadays, as many of the names I want to use have been taken by my machine guns. After four years in the army, it's pretty well eaten through my list of good names. I take it back, Mary was a machine gun. It was Joesephine and Miriam.
Ahhh, someday I will write it all down and keep it straight.

Edit: My sister named her Dean Edge 5 John Allen, the first names of our grandads.

I always name them girl's names, I think it's kinda like a boat or a car, they always refer to them as 'she'. Y'know, like 'she's a fine vessel' etc etc...

I have not just the names but the meanings of each of those names for all my instruments, as they have to kinda represent what that instrument's personality or unique distinction is... Sad I know, none of my friends or band members let it lie, unfeeling bastards...
