What's Your Bass/Guitar's Name?

They're not really names but, I have a green P bass that gets called a few things.

The Alligator
Gator
The Green Monster

And more recently (and my favorite), The Hulk.

Yeah I started calling my Mexican Jazz "Bruce" around my friends as a joke and it seems to have stuck. A catch a lot of crap about having my hands all over a male bass, but they can say what they wan, they'll never understand!

Not selling them so I'm good.

On the other hand, I don't name my food. I just call it cow until it winds up on the plate.

Never thought of the bass as a gender like a boat or car. "She handles great" or "She's a beauty"
The only name my bass has ever had is, "This damn thing"
It get's blamed for all my mistakes

The name of my bass is Lempi, which has three meanings in Finnish:

- a woman's name, used a lot until the 1940's (which is when the bass was built) and "in fashion" again since the 00's.
- a noun, meaning "love" in old Finnish
- an adjective, meaning "favorite" in contemporary Finnish: minun lempibassoni, "my favorite bass."

"Big Red" and "Old Corduroy." I tend to give more "horse" type names to objects, instead of male/female.

All of my basses have been Females also. I was told by a guitarist that bassists name their guitars after girls as they don't want a "male" that close to their junk (because bassists usually keep their basses lower towards their crotch".

My current J-bass's name is Vanessa. Don't ask me why, it just fit "her" xD

I've only named two of my basses: my blue Frankenjazz is called Smurfjamma (smurf because it's blue; jamma is short for pajama because it's a P/J ). My old silverburst Ray34 was called The Shark.

I named 2 out of my 3 basses yes...

Cort Action 4: "Traveller" - since it's never at home, it's the bass I tend to loan out to people for a while, so it's gone a lot, comes back a little worse for wear, gets patched up, and ready to go on another trip.

Rockwell RB-32: "The Dirt" - since that one's hanging in the shed most of the time. It's a $85 cheapie that I got on a whim and have been using to experiment on. It's now at the frankenbass stage with bits missing, bits added, and some bits just plain out not making sense.

Cort C4H; the unnamed bass. Mostly, because it has a personality that's a bit beyond a simple name. This might sound really ridiculous but that bass is possessed or something... it's awesome though

I have a Fender Deluxe P that I named Thomas (after one of my friends who named his nipple ring after me... long story)

And a Lakland 55-02 that I named Louie II (Who replaced a Stingray named Louie I), after my late father, who's middle name was Louis.

Ah, so I'm not crazy.

Mark me down... I have a tweaked Epi Embassy Special IV that I call "Rhea". Why? Because I thought the name sounded as dark as the bass sounds and looks. Plus what could be cooler than the girl that got ^%&@'ed by the god of war and gave birth to Romulus and Remus? I enjoy that bass way too much for the amount I paid for it.

I thought it sounded fancy and fit that bit of squire feel ( I almost named him Mr. Penguin off of batman)

Something I started that most of my instrument-playing friends have picked up on is naming the instrument something that, in another language, means 'music' or 'voice' or whatnot.

White P-bass with perloid PG - "Whitey"
Red P-bass with mirror PG - "Hotrod"
Orange BTB with maple fretboard - "The Beast"

Not really real names, but just nicknames to easily identify them. Whitey was the nickname i gave to my modded Ibanez RG350 back in my guitar playing days, was my #1 axe despite having more expensive guitars lying around. When i got the bass, i though i would continue the Whitey legacy.
