To be honest I don't know but I am very interested in playing with separate preamp/poweramp combos. At the moment I have a very interesting 2x12 with mid driver/horn that is a cross between a Greenboy (components) and a Bergantino (porting and cab design) with in it that composite and very cool. I'm keen on matching that up with a Crown poweramp and starting off with an Avalon U5 for my clean (darkglass pedals takes care of the rest). very very very excited to see the results and feel that sound quality vs. expenditure will be incredibly decent so even better.

I love them. They are thunderous. The B string is a beast. As for the intonation - when you change strings, you loosen the saddle all the way until it presses up against the body of the bridge, then as you tighten it- it both grabs the string and pulls it away from the bridge body. the thickness of the string dictates when this starts to happen and it sort of (honest to God) intonates the string at the same time. The break point on the separate bridge piece is also adjustable, but I've never had to adjust mine. Ned Steinberger can explain it a lot better than I can, but I can say it's dang near genius.

My dream amp would be Aguilar DB 751-ish.
  • 2 rack spaces, 19 inch or less
  • not more than 30 pounds
  • 750 watts at 4ohms, 2ohms capable if possible
  • gain and master
  • active EQ with deep switch, low knob, high knob, bright switch and two para mids (low mids around 120hz to 1Khz, high mids from 750hz to 3Khz or 3,5 Khz)
  • effects loop with send/return and blend knob on the front
  • superb DI-out in studio quality
  • drive section with blend knob that allows me to dial in whatever amount of drive I want, no need for a 'full attack modern metal' drive though
  • bright knob for the drive section to filter out the lows from the overdriven tone and blend that with the normal signal
  • low cut knob around 30hz
  • aux in and head phones out would be nice, not a must though as this is an amp for bigger stages and not living room practice
  • power amp a tad quicker than the DB amps, but with the same oomph and authority
  • fan quiet enough for cocktail jazz gigs

Give me a GRBass BR700+ head and a couple of GR212 cabinets for my dream SS rig...
A Fender Super Bassman and a couple of 115 cabinets for the my dream tube rig...

Although a GRBass PureAmp 700 and an Alembic F-1X would be amazing too!...

I recently picked up a SansAmp RPM (I know, I'm late to the the party..).
However, with my Carvin DCM1000 it sounds pretty much how I'd want an amp to sound.
Not a micro. Not tube. But not insanely heavy.
Maybe adding a Fearful 12/6 or two might be perfect for me.
Then again, I doubt I'd need both.

I want a head that I can stuff in a gig bag, under 10lbs, that sounds exactly like my blackline SVT but I can modulate the volume while retaining power tube saturation.

I want a cabinet that sounds like a Bergantino NV610 the size of a 112, under 30lbs.

I also want a magic wallet that never runs out of $100 bills.
