Devastating, Alembic's are my dream basses to bu they are just so expensive and may as well go all in or not at all!

That one won't sell for that price, you can get two Series I's for that amount... (Around $300o is realistic for that one)
You can get an Alembic starting at +/-$1200, I've even seen some sell for less than $1000.
Keep an eye out if you have some budget, you might can stop dreaming (look for a Spoiler or Persuader)

No idea. I like so many different kinds of basses, I'm not sure I could pick one "dream" bass, and I wouldn't know it was my dream bass until I play it anyways. Most likely a Fender P or a J though. I love the J shape, love the P sound.

Got my dream bass a couple of days ago... Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, a set-up guy tripped on a cord that shouldn't have been plugged in, which sent my beat-to-crap 1965ish Aria bass sailing. Cracked her neck, head, shattered her nut, and unbeknownst to me unglued the top of the fret board... So she went into stasis for almost 29 years. Finally found a guy that I trusted to work on her, and I got her back this week. So yeah, I dreamed of playing her many many times. That she was replaced with a T-40 that still works (and looks) great is sort of icing on the cake.

For years I wanted a 70s Jazz bass, but I could never pull the trigger on one. Had I done so I would have given up on the Aria - and that felt like a betrayal. :-D

Very cool story. Now that it's been a few months, how has it been playing for you? My first bass had a very similar accident to yours (not as much damage though) and has been waiting for me to get parts together to get it working again for almost 10 years.

Yeah, that might complicate things... If you're willing/brave enough to buy international you can get them for that price, but you would have to add a couple of 100's for shipping...
There is an almost identical Elan 5 as mine somewhere down under, maybe you'll get lucky and bump into that one. (though if still in good shape it will be way more than $1000)

What kind of bass would you love to have one day?
I would love a Rickenbacker, since my inspiration Lemmy played one and so has some of my other favorite bassists

Took about 22 years but I finally got mine. Warwick thumb NT6. I owned a bolt on and a neck through thumb 5 previously

the nt5 was my longest running main player by far (over a decade) I always wanted the NT6 but could never find one that I could afford. Over the years I've periodically looked online for them. A couple months back I found a great deal on one on eBay

Since getting this bass I haven't Had any interest in buying a high end bass at all. Now when I find myself looking at basses online it's either for a cheap backup or something completely different. The two basses I've considered. Buying recently are a rockbass basic corvette 6 which I've found used for $600 which I'd probably never play but I'd like to have as a just in case backup because it makes me nervous playing bigger shows without a backup. The other bass I've been thinking about getting is getting another Fender p bass and putting some big flats on it for bead tuning or maybe coated/elixer strings on it that I wouldn't have to change much. Part of wanting the P is to specifically have a different sounding bass for recording, another part of it was I mainly played p basses (Mexican P and a peavey p bass clone) in the mid to late 90s so it would be kind of nostolgic.

Dream Bass? As in singular? As in only 1?

Very difficult, as it varies day by day (hour by hour?).

Top basses on my "most wanted" list:

Ric 4003 (either midnight blue, mapleglo or jetglo... or all three!).
Ric 4004L preferably in blue.
Ric 4004Cii in mapleglo.
Warwick Star Bass (long scale, 43mm nut, natural or black).
Thunderbird with a 43mm nut.

Those are some of mine too. I don't really care to much about nut width though. I especially would like midnight blue or jetglo rickenbacker.

Keep your eyes on the sale sites on line and there are bargains to be had from used alembic basses. The ones without the filter circuits tend to be cheaper so you could get something like an alembic Epic, Orion for a sensible price these days. But obviously that depends on your budget.
