Dream Bass? As in singular? As in only 1?
Very difficult, as it varies day by day (hour by hour?).
Top basses on my "most wanted" list:
Ric 4003 (either midnight blue, mapleglo or jetglo... or all three!).
Ric 4004L preferably in blue.
Ric 4004Cii in mapleglo.
Warwick Star Bass (long scale, 43mm nut, natural or black).
Thunderbird with a 43mm nut.
All of the above are subject to change without prior notice.

Ever since seeing a picture of one in a Musician's Friend catalog circa 1973 I've been jonesing for an Alembic Series I bass. It would be the ultimate self-indulgent opulence for me to buy one now, since A) I already own two really freakin' amazing 4-string basses, and B) I play 5- or 6-string bass on a good 85% of my gigs anyway. But still, one of these days I swear I will splurge on a small-body, medium scale (32") Series I 4-string...just to fulfill that 44 year old dream.
I periodically also lust for/drool over:
- Wal Mk I
- Pedulla Buzz
- Curbow XT-33
- Modulus Graphite Quantum-6 TBX
but the Alembic is probably the only one I ever actually dreamed of.

My dream bass is an Oct 1951 to early 1954 Fender slab body Precision Bass. Only about 1,000 or so were made. I am very lucky to have just bought a 1953 as of Jan. 2017. Here is a Google photo of a slab body and the other photo is my "pride and joy".

I own a lot of amazing basses but there is always something more that nobody has bothered to make!
My main Axes currently are my G&L L2500. Nice, but only 5 string, What I REALLY dream about would be a nice PAIR of basses in both fretted and fretless that would be a G&L LM3600! Yes, you heard right. That would be a L2500 in 6 strings which would be a L2600. And then I'd want not two but THREE pickups (like Donner designs built) sort of like this: which would be L3600!
But wait, there is more! And lastly I want to change the electronics so that the passive-active-high boost switch, instead goes passive, active and full EQ! Which is to say switches to an active preamp with stacked bass/treble and Mids/sweep controls! Hence he "LM" designation. I want one SO bad! Er... I mean I want TWO of them so bad. Oh, and while I'm dreaming put graphite necks on them, please!
But wait! There is more. My dreams aren't over yet! In all the world there is only ONE and I don't know who owns it, but I dream that ONE DAY it might be mine! Six string Rickenfaker! Just Too Cool for words!

4-string, 812mm (~32") scale, 24-fret, hollow-bodied, bass with a neck pickup pushed all the way up on the butt of the neck and bridge pickup slammed down against the bridge both MM-like single coils (single large pole pieces per string, but only one row per pickup).
I have a feeling I'll have to order/make it custom, but I can dream.

I've always dreamt of a Hofner H500/1... I like the '64's... no a reissue though.
A Musicman Sterling LH would be pretty sweet.... make it rosewood neck/headstock and natural gloss.
