Whats your ethnic background ?

My family is from rural Pennsylvania about an hour to the NW of Philadelphia. The Hoys (father) and the Laws (mother) both came to that area in colonial times.

In researching our family history my paternal grandfather learned that family history traced back that far can be pretty convoluted. Names get misspelled and changed. Some people didn't even have last names back then or they took the names of people they worked for or were indentured to.

That being said I like to believe that I'm mostly Scottish due to my name (Hoy), but the area of Pennsylvania that my family hails from is well known as Pennsylvania Dutch country; which is a misnomer as the area was settled by primarily German peoples, so there is a strong possibility that my family is strongly German. There has been a lot of mixing going on in there too.

Dutch
Scottish
Irish
German (for sure)
Polish (for sure)
