Maybe you can help us by narrowing down your area of interest. For example, if your max budget was under $300, that would rule out some of the boutiquey options. Or maybe you have champagne taste and don't care to hear about the more pedestrian pedals. Or if you desire clean, articulate, modern tone, that could rule out some of the more tubey/dirt oriented preamps--or vice versa, desiring SVT emulation would rule out the super clean boxes.
Fair enough, but I was really hoping for more of a "Tell me what you use and what it does for you" than a "Tell me what you think I should use."
$3-500, capable of outputting a hot enough signal to drive a PA amp hard while staying clean, warm and round is good but as long as it plays well with effects I figure I can get a variety of sounds by adding other pedals, able to drive an amp while simultaneously sending a signal to the FOH. I like OD ( Fuzzrocious Dark Driving is a favorite) and some fuzz, but I'm happy to have those in a separate pedal instead of being built into the DI/pre.
