There is a small amount of nostalgia in this pick, because there are so many improvements over this, but I got one of these when they had first come out in about '82. It was a game changer all across the music industry.
TEAC 144 PortaStudio.

Before that, you could not overdub in a hotel room, on tour. It cost about $800 new then, but compared to the thousands that studio recorders cost, it was amazingly cheap. 4 tracks and you could bounce for up to 8 tracks!

Behringer XR18, before that I was using a eurodesk 32 channel mixer into a Presonus audio box i2, instead of 16 inputs going into 2 tracks into my daw I have 18 in and 18 out to record separate tracks straight into the daw at the same time. Now I not only can record di tracks and mic tracks at the same time for every instrument in the band, I can fine tune them and mix them post after the musics all said and done.
I can also still use my eurodesk for aux sends and send it back into the xr18
It really opened up a whole new spectrum recording for me. It also has its own wireless router so I can control it remotely from across the room with the x air app

In PA gear
1. My big rig Renkus Trap40/60's over EAW LA400's. 4 way using BSS Mini drives aligned using SMAART. Got my sound co to the next level up.
2. and very close. Soundcraft UI-24r mixer. I adore them. Own 2.

In Bass gear
1. Top spot, hands down. Least sexy, most useful thing ever... Radial Bassbone. has been centerpiece of my board for ages.
2. I am infatuated with synth bass. Vying for top synth are the Source Audio C4 and now a Future Impact. The C4 is flippin' amazing. I really thought the FI was catch and release... now it feels like C4 for ARP and FI for MOOG. I'm surprised and calling it a tie.
