So the other day a girl came over and asked me to play her a song and I realized that I had no bassline that could stand on its own without a drummer, guitarist etc. Can you suggest any songs that would fit in the mood??

Motown is an excellent suggestion. Has melody and can stand on it's own.

Just Play some slap bass and in your deepest voice Sing...
"hey Pretty mama, You wanna hear my funky Jam?"
"C'mon baby gonna slap that bass, all night long for you"
Then make up some improv about what she is wearing and how good she looks...
while continuing to slap...
Go back into the chorus, and then when your done put down you bass.
and smoothly say..
"your damn right"

I guarantee she will be impressed... lol..

something slick and funky on the 1 usually impresses. i drop a little "portrait of tracy" occasionally too.
just about any smooth, walking jazz part on an upright earns a smile.

"Fever" by Peggy Lee. Real simple bassline, but ultra-slinky/sexy.

Check out Seeman by Rammstein; it's got a fantastic bassline that simply repeats itself through the song, and it's VERY sweet sounding. I get compliments all the time from it.
The "Barney Miller" theme, maybe?
... that depends on the age. If she's in her 20's ... you'll most likely get the same look that a dog has, when it hears a high pitched noise.
Perhaps she'll know Smoke on the Water.
Just say "Funny you should ask. I was thinking of you the other day and wrote this." Then you can play whatever you want and she'll love it. Just make sure it's something you can remember cause she'll want to hear it again.
