When did the MAG 300 stop having a blue woofer?

Hey guys!!

I´m here again searching for info!!

I was about to order a GK MB112, but I have been offered an Ashdown C115 MAG 300 EVO II, for what I believe to be a decent price (200€ asking price) but here are my queries:

The combo has a blue speaker (woofer), but I believe the new ones have a black speaker, when did Ashdown change this? (to get a rough idea of age).

Does this model have a separate output for an extra cab? Or is it 300W as is?

I know they are different in all aspects, but how would you compare this to the GK MB112? The MB112 would cost me 299€ new.


I guess the answer is to try before you buy, but as always, I am out of the country at the moment, so I could get a friend to try it to make sure it works correctly, if you know of any specifics to look for they would be appreciated, but obviously he can´t judge if I will like it!!

I'd check if it's speaker has been replaced with a different one. IMO, the blue ones aren't all that great, depending on what the replacement is, it might be an improvement. If ashdown started making them differently, that has to be a pretty recent move.

Thing is, the one for sale has the blue speaker, but on ashdowns website they show them with a black speaker, and a different (cloth?) grille.

All else seems to be identical!

Basing my judgement here on my experience with a guys Electric Blue 180 combo with the blue 15. That one qualified as a "boomy one-note wonder", but the amp sounded really nice run out to other bass cabs. One reason is that big speaker stuffed in the tiny combo box. I had also read somewhere that the blue speaker supplier was kind of low cost, budget stuff. Can't really say that for sure though. If the MAG combo uses a bigger speaker box than the Electric Blue did, it might not be so boomy.

Ahh....there was a thread on here probably last year sometime about a guy looking for a replacement speaker for his blue combo. Turns out the box portion was so small, I couldn't think of a 15 I'd feel comfortable telling somebody to spend their money on. Can't remember the title. If you can manage to dig that up, there's some information in there from some other guys about the blue speakers.

The ABM line speakers are still blue ... The MAG EVO II line speakers are black. The Classic line (CL) are black as well and have a red screen.

Note: The "Elec Blue EVO II" still has a blue head, but I believe the speakers are black on those as well.

Thanks for all the input, the amp in question is this one, sorry about the foto but it is the only one online (the rest I have recieved by email)

As you can see, it has the blue speaker and a metal grille. It also seems to be carpet not vinyl, which makes me wonder the age of this. Anyone know when the MAG 300 EVO II was first produced?
