When did you get your first Bass

I bought my first bass in 1974 from A & R music
I paid 40.00 for a new Kay SG styled bass .
40 dollars for a new bass
I traded it 2 weeks later for a Sekova bass and a Little plastic amp with an 8 inch speaker.
So began my life as a Bass Player.
50 yrs later a Bass player and will always and forever be

1979 after playing guitar for about 7 years. It was a hunk of junk. Still play guitar some but bass is definitely home.

On or about 1976. I bought a used Epiphone EA-260, then a bit later, a Fender Musicmaster (new). Both with money I had earned gigging. Was fairly proud of that.

It was way back in aught 9. I was a young, 26 year old whippersnapper. Went over to ma and pa's GC and paid two hundred for a Dean acoustic. Ahh, life was simple back then.

My 1st new bass purchase was a Kramer Flying V about 1980. I wanted something different. Got it home and realized I couldn't play it sitting down and it was damn near unplayable standing up. Hard lessons learned quickly.

Late 80’s my brother bought me a Lyon by Washburn. 1990 i used it as a partial trade in for a new Ibanez EX series PJ at Apple music in Portland Or. I still have it. Through the years I have had to replace a couple tuners, upgraded the bridge to a hipshot A style and replaced the pickups with EMG actives. Its still a nice bass that sounds and plays great.

Around 1990. I was a teen, I had been first a singer in a band, flaky bass player, so I took up bass with a borrowed one. Took me a few months of odd jobs to make the money, but also my sister’s boyfriend helped me as he was also a bass player. He found a great used Ibanez. I still have it. It is still a great bass.

Father bought me a Sears Silvertone hofner style beetle bass and Sears amp in either 71 or 72.

2006 Fender MIM P bass, purchased brand new in 2007 for my son to play in the high school jazz band.

Then in 2009, I bought my first bass (2008 Highway One Jazz) at age 52 and started my journey as a late bloomer. 14 years later I still play that same J along with three others I acquired over the years.

12. Some of my dumb friends said they were in a band and you can’t make this up, handed me a junker bass and said it has 4 strings like your violin so you are the bass player. I guess they were right.
It was a pile and I don’t remember much about it except it was spray painted red. Got my own sweet blonde Vantage soon after.

I bought my first bass in Memphis, TN, in 1963. It was a Danelectro short horn. It was $45.00. I was new in the Navy and $45.00 was a month's pay.
I used a borrowed Premier 77 guitar amp for a few months until I could afford a Silvertone 2x12. I don't remember the model number.

In 1967 at age 15 I bought a Kay SG copy for $5 and a tab of acid. I sold it six months later for $35 and put that toward a 1968 Fender Telecaster Bass. I was working shape-up on a Coca-Cola delivery truck for $20 a half day from 8am-1pm. That was a good summer.

1966 Jimmy's Music on 48th St. NYC. Early 60's SB Precision with tort of course. Shortly thereafter it was stolen. Gone for ever!

8th grade. Squier Affinity beginners pack. it was red, white pickguard, with rosewood or pau ferro board. i was happy to upgrade when I did.

My first bass was a Global as well! I bought it at a pawn shop, circa 1988! Mine was a black Les Paul copy, and a huge piece of s*it LOL. Had two missing tuning keys, crap action and the weakest, noisiest electronics under the sun.

It served its purpose until I got my first "real" bass, an early 90s Korean Squier.
