When did you get your first Bass

My first real bass was a Spector NS2000/Q4 that I got with money from my first job at 16. Traded a few of my guitars towards it as well.

No ragrets.....except selling the Spector, but as much as I loved it at the time I bet I'd find it just "OK" if I played it today.

I had a Spector NS - 95 a few years ago
I don't know what I was thinking when I got rid of it
Someone offered to buy it for the original selling price when new.
I didn't pay a single dime for it
A dude just left it at a guitar player friends house for like 17 yrs. and he never came back for it .
*** ? 17 yrs. The reason he never came back for it not even so much as phone call.

I borrowed it a few times and then just asked my
friend jokingly if I can have it , and he said yes.
and that's how I got it .
Sold it for 1000 . in 2017

First bass... 1966, I think. A Teisco bass in red. Got it used for $15. Sadly I gave it away in 2007 with the same strings it had on it from the '60's. I was stupid to get rid of it. Just needed space when downsizing my home. Did the same thing with my Silverton Twin 12 amp. Kicking myself.

I regret getting rid of every bass , every amp ,
Guitar , effect I've had
My ELECTRA MPC OUTLAW and my KRAMER XL-8
were both stolen in 1984
Today my past amps and basses are so rare and valuable.

I bought my first bass in 1974 from A & R music
I paid 40.00 for a new Kay SG styled bass .
40 dollars for a new bass
I traded it 2 weeks later for a Sekova bass and a Little plastic amp with an 8 inch speaker.
So began my life as a Bass Player.
50 yrs later a Bass player and will always and forever be

1997. I got a Yamaha BBN 5 at a pawn shop for $275. It is still my main gig bass. It has since had 18 volt Bartolini active system put in. That cost almost twice as much as the bass.

2008/9 - poopy Yamaha I bought off a friend. Played in a band for a year or 2 knowing virtually nothing about bass, but didn't need to as the band was pretty straight forward punky thrash.

Fast forward to 2023 and I bought my first  proper bass. Ibanez SR600E. Now taking it a lot more seriously.

I may add that drums was always my main instrument and i did pretty well with that. However, I injured my wrist and now I can only really play bass. I'm loving it, tbh.

5th grade. Some Japanese thing. In 6th grade I got a new Fender Mustang for Christmas.

1976 @ 16, a Columbus Jazz bass. I hadnt a clue and thght Columbus were the company that made .a bass called the ....'Jazz Bass'.. haha. Anyway it was heavy and Ive no idea if it was any good or not. Saved like crazy and bought a brand new wine coloured P bass.....Grt memories and so wish I still had the P bass.. pretty sure it was a good one.

I'm old (73). I got my first bass in 1968. A used Hagstrom which out of ignorance, I paid too much for it. For about $80 more, I could have bought a new Fender but back then, $80 was about equal to $800 today figuring in inflation and the value of the USA dollar.

It looked like this (Google photo). It was a short scale.

I’ve been playing guitar since 1961 and bought my first bass a year ago. Now I’m obsessed with playing bass!
I have an upgraded Squier P-bass (new tuners and a HipShot bridge) and an Epi Newport bass also refitted with Gotoh tuners and a HipShot 2-point bridge.
Playing guitar for decades made it easier to learn bass, but only with regard to knowing where the notes are. Playing technique is a whole different thing!
I look forward to the day when I can actually play well… maybe by the time I am 80!
