When during your day do you play bass?

Working from home has been amazing to facilitate more practice time. Whenever there is downtime I can plug in and bass away. As my shifts can vary, it can be anytime.

Now, we may be forced to do shifts back in the building again, so I'm not looking forward to that dagger in my work/life balance...at all.

Usually evenings into night/ late night/ early AM. Rarely less than 3 or 4 hours. Typically 5 or more days a week. You'd think I'd be good. Reality is no. I'm still sloppy, lazy and constantly letting out stinkers. Oh well. I enjoy the time.

I work from home.

My upright and electric bass are always ready to play and within my reach. And so is my piano controller and baritone sax. I play electric and piano in the morning after meditation/yoga and I blast my saxophone or upright when I can. My son come's in and out of my office and plays and sometimes we jam. He plays keyboard pretty well and bass too. For some reason he gets a pass for making noise more than me :(

In my work campus, there is a designated music room that is sound proofed. I set up the one in our San. Diego campus

Computer breaks are enforced (and now hard to bypass) and being senior means attending meetings where you are required to attend even though you only have 30 seconds to say your bit. Plenty of time during the day

On weekdays, I tend to do it in the evenings, after my kids go to bed at 8pm but before I turn in around 10.

Weekends, I might play in the evenings as well, but if the kids are suitably distracted by something I can occasionally squeeze in a few minutes of practice time during the day. They're still young enough that I get asked for help with something pretty often though, whether that's getting a snack, wiping a snotty nose or dirty butt, changing a shirt, getting a board game down, playing a game, making another snack, etc. so daytime practice is very hit and miss.

I have a weekly rehearsal as well with my band in the evening.

On days off from work, I usually play in the early afternoon. On a day when I work, I tend to play once my wife goes to bed. At that time I either use headphones or I break out the acoustic bass and play that one.

Sometimes in the morning before work if something is going through my head that i want to play but typically after work.
Its a great way to wind down and usually my fingers are more limber in the afternoon.
I am definitely more in the mood to play or noodle around later in the day.
That all being said, if inspiration hits and im home, im playing no matter the time of day:)

I have a beater bass just for the reason of having it laying around to grab n practice at anytime......its a cheap horrible junk bass, the action is higher than I like and the strings are a gauge higher than my usual which makes playing my main basses feel much easier similar to basketball players feeling like they jump higher after wearing ankle weights all day....because it's always laying around I pick it up any time of day when the spirit moves me
