when I thought I have seen everything.....

I've been amusing myself by imagining....

What if, from the beginning, basses had always been made with some kind of decorative covers on the tuning keys -- and now many years later, someone posted a picture of a Fender with bare-metal elephant ears. Would we all be laughing about how stupid it looked? "They stick out like a sore thumb!" "It looks like the builder didn't finish the job!" "Does it really cost that much extra to cover up those monstrosities?!" "That's the ugliest bass I've ever seen!"

(Fortunately, I'm easily amused.)

Not what I'd choose, but I don't see what's so bad about them.
Not my thing, but I can appreciate it.

same for me: the cat who owns the ax likes them = good enough for me!

They remind me of beer taps. Maybe that says something about me...
"us!" could've been cool to just make them beer taps! :) mexican beer!

 yes, i'm sure of that. some folks just can't wrap their heads around "new," "different," "individual," or even "big whup."

regardless of the construction materials used in our own houses: i think we should throw some rocks at it!

I was musing on the arbitrary primacy of clover-shaped tuners the other day also. Why wouldn’t this be a reasonable design?
