Got freaked out by THIS today! My daughter got scared - it hissed at her - he was pretty hidden. We got close without seeing it.

Right at the border of the sun and the shade on the left side of the path, there is a rattler. Click the link and make it big.

Those things pretty much just appear out of nowhere if you're walking a gravel road. When I'm in rattler territory I usually am mindful of the nearest hospital and a couple alternates (in case the nearest one is out of anti-venom).

Ah, yeah that would give you a shock. We have some of the deadliest snakes in the world where I live. I actually stood on a Death Adder once (with bare feet) - damned if know why it didn't bite me. I was appreciative though, and thanked it profusely.
