Where do I put the compressor?

Ok, here are my opions

1) Bass - Overdrive - Head - Cab - Mic - Desk

2) Bass - Overdrive - COMPRESSOR - Head - Cab - Mic - Desk

3) Bass - Overdrive - Head - Cab - Mic - COMPRESSOR - Desk

4) Bass - Overdrive - COMPRESSOR - Head - Cab - Mic - COMPRESSOR - Desk

Which is the best setup to get a real rock sound! Think Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry ect... I am playing a gig on Saturday night and am very unsure where to place the pedal for maximum effect.

Also, what settings should I use in general?

P.S - My overdrive is an Ibanez PD7

If you are using a pedal I'd suggest before your overdrive.
That's how I like it.
It can also go behind your OD pedal. You must experiment on that and see what works best.

Rack compressor should go in the effects loop of your amp if you ever go that way.

From mic to desk, let the soundguy worry about that. Unless you are the soundguy.

For my rig, I place the compressor at the end of the chain, just before I go into my head. This is what I was always told, but I also DI my rig. Since you're micing your rig you may need your compression after the mic, but I don't have much experience using mics on my cabs.
