where do you sit on ancient astronaut theory?

So, you work for the Illuminati, eh? :smug:
It's been declassified and fully published over 15 years ago and yes, I read it. Still have the book in my library.
There is NO solid prof of evolution. It is all theory.
That is all I was saying.
And you were wrong. There is such a huge amount of evidence for the theory of evolution that nothing prevents it from working. In other words, there is no solid evidence or proposition against it. No other theory works better to explain tha changes in life on our planet.
The so called scientific community lied and covered up the whole "Global warming" thing.
I have no idea why this pops up in your post but you are wrong again. The "scientific community", whatever it is (I think you're talking about the IPCC?) hasn't changed its mind regarding global warming, except to say that it's even worse than they first thought. There is nothing to cover up since all they do is publish the results of their researches. YOu think global warming vanished because AL Gore stopped talking about it on TV?

Contrary to the popular belief, It is perfectly ok for a scientist to be wrong and change his mind.
If somebody can display even a hint for the existence of ancient astronauts, or any other UFO for that matter I will gladly look into it.

Contrary to the popular belief, It is perfectly ok for a scientist to be wrong and change his mind.

exactly. And they do, as soon as more evidence comes in.

Not so with the "Anti scientific Community". They already believe they have their answer, no matter what evidence comes up. And at worst, the few times they DO support the scientists is when they find that rare one that agrees with them and supports their ideas. It's not too hard to find a handful of scientists who don't believe in evolution or global warming. And by handful, I truly mean a handful. The vast, overwhelming majority don't just believe in evolution and global warming. They accept it as proven fact. Just like they accept the proven fact of the "theory" of gravity.

The same can be said of UFO.

No, quite simply it can't. Just using the term "UFO theory" doesn't elevate it to the realm of scientific theory. Where, for example, can we see evidence of it's predictive power?

For it to be considered scientific theory, all evidence and fact must corroborate it AND it should demonstrate predictive power. In short, conclusions made by the theory should be borne out in as yet unexplored ways. Evolution has done this for over 150 years.

Evolution, no matter how much people want to believe it has NOT been proven.

Again, words like "proof" and "theory" are often used incorrectly in these discussions. Facts are the world's data and theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. And the beautiful thing is that facts don't change and theories are only good so far as they explain all of the facts.

Evolutionary theory has changed as additional facts and discoveries were made. Things like integrating molecular biology and the existence of DNA as the genetic code or Gould's own theory of Punctuated Equilibrium have created necessary revisions but the fundamental tenets of Darwin's theory have withstood every test and emergence of new information.

I think there's a mistaken belief that scientists "believe" in evolution as a sort of pseudo faith. That's not how science works. Evolution is accepted scientific theory because (to borrow from Dobzhansky) nothing in biology makes sense except in light of evolution. It is a structure that explains the facts and every subsequent discovery has only reinforced that. If evidence existed to disprove it then it would fall to the wayside.

Show me the missing link.

The incomplete fossil record is a debate that has been done to death. I can expound on it if you'd like but simply put, the absence of every single change to every species in terms of fossilized remains does nothing to discredit evolution. I wonder if people realize that the fossilization process is incredibly rare to begin with. Sometimes it seems people believe that any creature that dies leaves behind fossilized remains.

Besides, missing information is just that. It's a lack of facts which does nothing to discredit an existing theory.

Anecdotal evidence from even thousands of sightings is not necessarily credible evidence. Actual physical evidence, such as a piece of a ship or an alien corpse (or live alien even better) is solid believable evidence. Eyewitness accounts can be unreliable.

And solid evidence can be confiscated, silenced, and/or destroyed.

Any fool can look at a chimp or orangutan and tell that we are related. The proof is right there for all to see. Heck, I don't even need a scientist to prove it to me. What they have to say about evolution only confirms what I already know!

I can look similarly at ancient civilizations and written accounts and see clearly that ancient man was not capable of creating the monoliths of worship around the world. The fact that they all happen to sit on the global enery grid only confirms what I already know!

I believe the ancient astronaut theory is just as good as any god theory, just more believable.

I believe that every depiction of god and/or gods are extraterestrial accounts.

and by the way, I don't WANT to believe evolution. I just do.

Just the same, I dont want to believe that extraterestrials played a part in creating and furthering ancient civilizations, I just do. I also happen to believe in evolution.

It's been declassified and fully published over 15 years ago and yes, I read it. Still have the book in my library.

I believe what has been declassified is just enough information to lead people to your conclusions.

Who am I to say that advanced civilizations don't excist? While the bible it says that God created earth and man....it doesn't say what he created before or after. So yes, it's very possible that there are advanced beings somewhere out there who've been here to help give man a kick start.

As far as the whole 12-21-12 thing goes, I don't know anymore than the next guy what (if anything) is going to happen. Could be what they say....the passing of one era into another and the "change" could be no differant than going from one day to the next. I didn't fall for the whole Y2K thing and I'm not going to fall for this. If something bad happens world wide that effects us all...then we're all screwed.

As far as all the History channel shows are concerned....on one hand I think it's a facinating topic, I believe it's all possible and sometimes I can't help but wonder if we're being prepared for something. Hard to say.

OP?

He always makes me want to invest in hair jelly and sugar futures.

To his credit, his hair is not always quite so wild...

Why should they travel trough space (thats a long way to go) to help us? And what did this very advanced civilization show us? ...how to build big munuments of rock?

Hmm, the very fact that Earth is supposedly the only planet in our solar system with advanced lifeforms opens the door to a lot of possible reasons...

Perfect post!

People always assume that ancient man was stupid, or somewhat less then us. Time and time again, we have seen that was not the case. Mozart and Bach lived a long time ago, and their music is far more complex then most rock and pop music being produced today. Does that mean that aliens must have taught them how to write music? Nope. Just means they were damn good at what they did. Same as the egyptians with their pyramids. They were motivated, and smart, and new how to build. Not that hard to believe, really.

I like the idea of ancient astronauts, actually. I think it is intriguing. I don't rule it out...its just that there is little or no evidence supporting it.

I highly doubt aliens have ever visited earth, but I firmly believe there are advanced civilizations out there...and lots of them, much more advanced than we.

I mean if the science is correct, or even close, the Universe is approximately 13 billion years old. Earth has been here for 4.5 billion years...So lets just say there are some planets out there with civilizations that got started a billion or 2 years before we did, or say even a hundred thousand years older than human civilization...what kind of amazing technology might they have? What will we have in 100,000 years (assuming we don't blow ourselve up, or get hit by a gamma ray burst or some other apocalyptic event)...will we have the technology to travel great distances through space by then?

I know it's all just specualtion, but it's cool to think about...

I think there is a lot more evidence out there than any of us would ever know.

And as soon as that evidence comes out, then theories will be modified. Assuming, of course, that there IS any more evidence to be found.

A lot of history is misinterpreted, and what evidence there is is often shrugged off for some "more plausible" explanations.

It's the historian's job to analyze and interpret the past, based on the evidence presented. Trouble is, almost all of human history remains undocumented, leading to misinterpretations of the historical record. Sometimes evidence is shrugged off for some "more plausible" explanation, simply because the evidence is scanty at best and is itself misleading at worst.

I need to weigh in here because I am freakishly obsessed with science.

This is a common misappropriation of the term theory as it relates to common usage being applied against the scientific term of theory. Evolution is a theory in the same sense that the Earth revolves around the sun is a theory or that the force of gravity is a theory.

Stephen J Gould put it perfectly in his essay, Invalid Link Removed.

But suffice to say, there is mountains of evidence and proof of evolution.

Yes but it's a THEORY, not a FACT. A theory can be discredited and opposed. There's also evidence to support cretationism - not in the "God reached down from the heavens and the Earth." But really, there are no other animals on the face of the planet that would willingly commit suicide, rape, murder, etc. If I wanted to make a thesis on it, I could and it would be enough evidence to support a THEORY. Darwinism is a theory as well.

The same can be said of UFO.

Evolution, no matter how much people want to believe it has NOT been proven.

Show me the missing link.

+1. You're exactly right.

good lord! People are so gullible and easy to read!

Have you ever taken even one science class? By science class, I mean, that taught by a secular, accredited school. Not Bob Jones university, please.

Do you even know what the scientific method is?

Any fool can look at a chimp or orangutan and tell that we are related. The proof is right there for all to see. Heck, I don't even need a scientist to prove it to me. What they have to say about evolution only confirms what I already know!

You're correct - somewhat. We're related to them in the same genus; much like the way cats and lions are related. However that in no way proves we descended from them.

The question is do YOU know what the Scientific Method is?

Contrary to the popular belief, It is perfectly ok for a scientist to be wrong and change his mind.
If somebody can display even a hint for the existence of ancient astronauts, or any other UFO for that matter I will gladly look into it.

I think a lot of people don't understand scientists. They try to explain some of the hardest questions in the world. Rule #1 is "What you think is right, could very well be wrong."

Thank you, you're exactly right. Even gravity is just a theory and I think that scares a LOT of people because people want solid answers so they don't have to think.

Back to the OP though...I do believe aliens exist...

Look at it this way, the distance from the Earth to the Sun is 93,000,000 miles or 1 Astronomical Unit (AU) . Humans cannot fathom that distance. (93,000,000) It's like an ant trying to comprehend that there's a whole planet called earth. So we use (AU) to "dumb it down" a little so the mileage isn't so mind blowing. There is so much SPACE out in space - billions and BILLIONS of AUs away from here. Uh yeah, aliens exist. There's no way we're the only people here just based on the fact that there's so much area in space, there has to be another semi-"intelligent" species out there.

Was Earth visited by aliens back in the day? I believe so as it would answer many questions. #1.) The Pyramids in Egypt are lined up perfectly with the stars. Look, these people didn't even have the damned wheel and you're going to tell me that these people PULLED and PUSHED 100 Ton blocks the size of most apartment complexes? Nope. #2.) There are similar pyramids in Mexico - also lined up perfectly with the stars. But that's just a fluke right? #3.) The annunaki. #4.) The fact Egyptians worshiped "Extraterrestrial Beings". #5.) Easter Island. #6.) The Stonehenge . #7.) Atlantis...etc, etc.

The Annunaki are my favourite as they wrote about beings coming from the 10th planet in the solar system visiting us every 2,750 years. But doomsdayers always have a field day with that one.

The Mayans wrote that calendar over 1,000 years ago. When it ends in 2012, it's the end of this current era and is the new era of Atlantis.
Remember, the way I feel is just a theory and is not right or wrong...Just like there's a theory that Earth was the 5th planet from the Sun and we were hit by the 10th planet which caused us to spiral closer to the sun to where we are today. of course the shards from the impact caused the asteroid belt and our moon.
