where do you sit on ancient astronaut theory?

They left out a few things, like shows about ghosts, but this cartoon captures it pretty well:

Thanks, You said a lot of thing better then I could.

I want to add in how so many very credible people have made reports of things and even more very credible people that have seen things but never reported it because they didn't want the trouble.

I am talking about Test pilots, astronauts, military and civilian pilots from around the world. Military and civilian radar operators.

I have a very hard time believing that all these ancient civilizations just happened to build all this stuff for the heck of it.

I am a ex sailor that spent some time at sea. I saw things along with a lot of other shipmates that showed also up on radar, but never got reported.
A lot of Captain's and pilots do not want it in their file.
During my time in the Navy I had the opportunity to see a lot of these places. When you stand and see these places it truly amazes you.

I see a LOT of crazy things in the sky out here in Vegas as well. I'm on the outskirts, near the mountains where I believe the military does a lot of their experimental testing with planes.

A lot of misconceptions here.

Regarding the first bolded point: There are plenty of animals that commit these acts. Ever seen a cat play with a mouse, then kill it and not eat it? Dogs that maul people rarely eat them either. That's murder. As far as animals commiting rape, they do it ALL the time. In fact, that's the primary method. I have watched my roosters go after a hen, holding her neck in thier beak so she can't escape.

Regarding why cats and lions look alike (and chimps and humans). No, I never said we came from them. We share a common ancestor. That's evolution.

Regarding ancient people knowing astronomy so perfectly, lining up pyramids with the stars. The polynesians knew stars so perfectly, they were able to discover easter island, the hawaiian islands, and possibly america. A long, long time ago.

I totally believe in aliens, by the way. I just doubt seriously they have ever been here, nor could they get here even if they wanted. It might turn out that the distances are impossible to get around, even for far advanced technology.

I understand where you're coming from and in fact I could agree with what you're saying because it makes sense. Look at the amazing minds before the 20th century. I'm merely saying that it is POSSIBLE (since we weren't there.) that early humankind were influenced by extraterrestreal beings.

You seem more obsessed with pseudo-science.
Science is science whether it be deemed psuedo or real. People once were killed for saying the Earth wasn't at the center of the universe. To call one theory ridiculous and the next theory acceptable is asinine. I have Asperger's Syndrome so I'm pretty much "Thinking outside of the box" 24/7. If someone could make a 50 page document about how cats are the supreme rulers of Earth and actually had credible evidence, guess what? I'm gonna sit down, read it, and try to understand. The point is we really don't know what happened back then to create these monuments so we can only speculate and that's that.

life as we understand it.
maybe aliens don't need oxygen,hydrogen, sunlight,etc...
(just saying)

Maybe. Maybe they live on Uranium? God I love converse thinking, it gets my rocks off.

I'm going to read it now. That's just crazy!!

Btw, has anyone here seen the newest Battlestar Galactica? I frakin love that show. It is SO good and I love how they think humans got to Earth! :D

What makes the difference between scientific and non scientific approaches isn't the nature of the claim or how incredible it seems to be.

Science is in the demonstration of the claim. If you don't know what happened and have no way to explain it, the right thing to say is "I don't know". Then you can try to build demonstrations based on facts and observations and use tools such as the rule of elegance and Occam's razor to sort them out and eventually reach a satisfying explanation.

If you have to resort to aliens travelling through space while not having a single hint, you explanation is unlikely to have any validity. Coolness doesn't a proof make.
You can call it pseudo-science, cargo culting, religion or child tales but not science.

My feelings on the "ancient astronaut" theory:

Aliens on other planets in the universe: Almost definitely
Aliens more advanced than us: most likely
Advanced aliens that have sent out "probes": probably
Alien probes that have made it to earth at some point: possibly
Alien astronauts that have the ability to travel great distances: maybe
Alien astronauts that have traveled to earth: unlikely

"absence of evidence is not evidence of absence"
+1. Love that quote.

My feelings on the "ancient astronaut" theory:

Alien astronauts that have the ability to travel great distances: maybe
Alien astronauts that have traveled to earth: unlikely

Why is it "maybe" and unlikely?

Let's go back to my Astronomical Unit explanation :

Earth is 93,000,000 miles away from the sun (1AU) . So from that 1 AU radius we have found no life. Mars has life, but only amoebas. The distance from Earth to Kupier Belt is 15AU(? off the top of my head.) We havent found life in that radius.

With those facts given, why wouldn't an alien race stop here? It's not like we're amongst other planets (that we know of) full of complex life.

Hang on I'll get the exact distance from the Earth to the Kupier Belt.

Maybe that 15au distance is equivalent to the width of the Mojave desert to an alien. People live on one side of the desert. I go half way across the desert and don't see anyone. That doesn't mean people don't exist on the other side of the desert.

It's 55AU...Give or take a few million miles.

Right - I understand that you don't see people in the desert,etc...I'm just saying this for the sake of the fact that we have YET to find life in our solar system which is why Earth is an astronomical "Hot Spot" when it comes to life.

Not only that, it is theorized the universe is billions and billions of years old. We humans are a fart.....no...an ATOM when it comes to how long we've been here in comparison to the existence of the universe. Common sense would say that over the time that it is highly likely a hyper-evolved alien race exists...We can't fathom how big space is, space is incredibly old...Well...Put 2 and 2 together.

Also PLEASE note how everything I type has "THEORIZED/THEORY/BELIEVE". NOTHING IS SET IN STONE. Why? Because we'll never really know! That's the beauty of it!

I was supporting your comment...my dumb auto correct changed a fumbled spelling of don't exist to do exist.

Sounds like you're hinting the microcosms and macrocosms of the universe.

Copernicus and Galileo were accused of the same thing...:hiding:

The truth is no one knows what the truth is. But it sure is fun discussing the possibilities and still remain grounded to earthly laws of math, science, and physics.

I won't deny that it's fun, but when people starting interchanging the word theory with the word belief, and assume they mean the same thing or that the semantics don't matter, I get a little worked up.

Yes I am definitely doing that. Glad ya caught on. :D

In my defense, I tried as hard as I could to make sure I left everything that was theorized, theorized. I'll clear the air on my beliefs of this stuff:

-I believe humans were not an evolved product of an ape or anything in that genus. We just don't mesh with any other creature here. We're takers, not givers like the rest of the organisms on Earth.

-I believe that there are creatures from the 10th planet called "Nibiru" that have visited Earth numerous times when Nibiru's orbit comes too close to Earths.

-I believe Nibiru's peculiar orbit is the reason why we had the great flood that was documented in the Bible and ancient texts.

-I believe that all of these ancient structures lined up with the stars has something to do with alien life.

-Polytheism was the predominant form of religion for thousands of years. It would kind of make sense considering these alien beings visited us from Nibiru. *Shrugs*

My beliefs are suspect to change at any time given any theory. I'm an out of the box, crazy, free-thinker and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Perhaps we would know more about us and the universe if the world spent more money on these subjects instead of weapons to kill each other.

Are my beliefs "insane"? Sure . Plus I am insane. But remember, it's us insane folk that make the best musicians. :D

"absence of evidence is not evidence of absence"

This is a valid principle of logic. However, it does NOT mean that absence of evidence is evidence of presence, either, which is the way it tends to get used by the UFO crowd. Someone may tell me that they believe in a creature called a purple spotted dinkelgruber. They have no evidence that such a creature exists. In the absence of evidence, I cannot positively assert that no such creature exists; but I can declare that there is no reason to believe such a creature exists.

One might apply the principle to things like quarks and neutrinos, or DNA, before the tools to conduct experiments demonstrating their existence had been developed. Prior to those experiments, there was no evidence of their existence. That doesn't mean they didn't exist; but it does mean that there was no reason a rational person would have believed in them. Greek philosophers had imagined atoms long before their existence was proven; but until that point, the existence of the atom was mere speculation.

That's why I said earlier that I was perfectly happy to think there is life on other planets, somewhere in the universe. There's nothing implausible about that as speculation. But that's very different from saying that there is credible evidence of its existence, let alone that it has visited earth.
