Amazon for the win among big corps. Their returns policy is stupid friendly to customers. Recently I ordered a rubber turntable mat. They refunded me on Day 2. Looking deeper it turned out the item was damaged on its way to Amazon Lockers at Whole Foods. Never had a seller tell me in advance that something they sent me was damaged AND automatically refund me. I didn’t have to do squat.

among big box stores, amazon stands above the rest for me, too.

but they never refunded me for a damaged item before it arrived :D

Mouser Electronics and DigiKey Electronics are both absolutely ace.
Can confirm that.

The couple times I ordered through Parts-Express were also great. Being based in Ohio, though, it'll be a while before I order from them again - No complaints, it's just that anything crossing that border adds to the sticker price and shipping time, even in Windsor, right at the border.

Also, Princess Auto. Now, the stuff I buy from there is all tools that I admittedly don't use on a professional basis, but they've held up over time - and I wouldn't necessarily expect them to if I used them full-time - but it's hard to beat their, "if you bought it from us, we'll take it back, no exceptions" policy.

Amazon is the one that popped into my mind immediately. They've always done well for me. And I find them very easy to contact and get taken care of almost immediately. Sometimes I'll get somebody whose English is very difficult to understand, but everybody has been quite helpful.

SKB. I had a rack case that I bought so long ago, I don't remember how long ago it was. The latches were worn out, so I contacted customer service to order a new set of latches. The rep asked for a pic of the latch and my address and sent me a new set, including the pop rivets, no charge. Again, I bought it maybe 20 years ago.

Last time I went to NAMM, I went to their booth and heaped loads of praise on them.

Hans Peter Wilfer gives amazing customer service on Warwick's website. I've only emailed with him, but he promptly addresses any issue I've had including a major one. Would always do business with them even if shipping is horrible.

Razer has great customer service. Wonderful computers and peripherals to boot.

Amazon and Zappos. As much as people hate them, they have made returns really easy.

Several subscription services like Flaviar and Bean Box have only done right by me.

And then there are a ton of local business like The Book Tavern, Hive, The Augusta Book Exchange, and Field that have excellent customer service if you are in my city.

I have bought several things from Chicago Music Exchange via Reverb over the years and they’ve always been great.
I ordered a custom bass through them that they sort of flubbed, but they ended up making it right. My feeling was more neutral than amazing though. I feel like mistakes happen, but they are good opportunities to make amazing experiences. If everything goes the way it is supposed to on some of these orders it isn't as memorable.

That’s the sort of thing that will earn a company my continued patronage. Sometimes mistakes happen, so long as a company makes it right I am understanding of that. They seem like one of the few bigger companies (in the music industry at least) that hasn't adopted the “we got your money, F you” business model that larger companies seem to adopt.

When I worked for a trade show production company, my job was to first sell booth space, then be proactive with that customer to insure they had the best show experience possible. That could include coaching on how to approach prospects, effective sales techniques unique to their product and/or service, how best to set up displays, how to dress, etc etc etc. Easy with a few people/companies, but when you are personally responsible for over a hundred exhibitors it only takes one to turn a challenging task into a frustrating slog. It was the most intense customer service job I ever worked. It was where I learned no matter how hard I tried, some people simply could not find it in themselves to be happy or satisfied. I gained a whole new respect for the art of customer service.
The lady I worked for had a sign on the wall behind her desk reading, “Those employees not fired with enthusiasm, soon will be”. It was the prime directive she insisted we live by to stay in her employ.

NOT G&L btw, worst service ever.
I wont go into detail but I’ve had only crap experiences since the early 2000’s.
I have a first year JB-2, its a tank, gigged hard and never failed me.
But its had some issues that G&L could have helped with, but completely blew me off. They sent me a copy\pasted list of retailers in Canada to contact for help. Contacted at least 10, all said they only had radio silence from them the pas 6-10 months.

Its a very good instrument, but I’m never buying another one in my life.
They couldn’t even get me a replacement truss rod nut because mine was stripped. Found out on my own that a Fender Bullet truss rod nut works just the same.

Well in this particular case, I don't think they could really earn excellent marks. They made a mistake and it delayed the order by about a year, and they didn't catch the mistake despite multiple checks from myself.

In general, my experience has been outside of the cable and cell companies even larger businesses have reasonable to good customer service.

Yeah thats pretty bad, dont think i would have put up with a year long delay.

For me it really shows up when I need something beyond just a simple order fulfillment. Things like parts returns, quotes on non-stocked items, wonky international trade regulation paperwork, they're on it.
How they manage hundreds of thousands of different parts is also nothing short of amazing.

I'm also going to give a shout out to McMaster-Carr, REI and the Post Office.
