Where is the electric instrument industry going from here ?

To hell I hope after years of teasing me and fueling my obsessive GAS. I wonder if we can get a class action suit like they did for tobacco?.

Who knows--I have my instruments & stuff--and while I'd like to get some new stuff along the way, if I never did--as long as I can get accessories & strings & stuff--I'll do fine.

But these things are cyclical and so things will turn around agains later.
And if supply outweighs demand, there should be some great deals coming our way.

The market is flooded with cheap instruments not premium.

The good thing about the flood of cheap instruments is the aftermarket part market has grown enormously to personalize those cheapies and mid market guitars.

Every time I go into GC I see dozens of folks drooling over their guitar inventory.

A LOT of these cheaper instruments will find their way to Goodwill or the closet....folks will always lust after new guitars.....heck, even the hip hop artists are using way more guitars than ever.

Guitars aint ever going away.

kids of the future will interact with virtual musical instruments, its already a reality, it will just become more sophisticated as the years pass. Actual musical instruments will be antiques to be collected and displayed. A real guitar will be the equivelant of a rotary wall phone to future generations.

I seriously doubt that. Standard guitars have survived many technical revolutions. There is no way a virtual interaction can mimic the multitude of variables the guitarist has access to in playing a real instrument.

This was the kind of thing that musical pundits were saying back in the 70's when synthesizers came on line. Didn't happen. They said it again in the 80's when samplers became the rage. Didn't happen again.

I sincerely hope your right, but it seems alot of kids are more enamored with touch pads than strings. Future instruments may be holographic in nature. Maybe its more impotant that they keep creating music than what its played on. I hope this practice of sampling existing music is outlawed or at least frowned upon so there is a need to keep creating something new.

I actually had a contractor come in here...he saw the (band) photos in my cube & said-
"...hey, I am also in a band; me on guitar with a bass player, drummer & singer. We even have videos on youtube".
Cool...except it was Rock Band or whatever that game is/was called.
He was deadly serious about this "band" (they were actually "good enough" to win "jam" competitions).
Oh yeah-
He said he did not have the time to learn a real instrument.

I just died a little inside reading that. I don't think that attitude will ever get any more traction than it already has unless they invent "Acoustic Guitar Hero: Campfire and Beach D-Bag Edition!".

I second that. And virtual instruments will never have the kind of warm sexy contact we have with a guitar. Plus you will always need a f***** power supply for those things. Take an acoustic guitar and you can seat anytime anywhere without thinking about power supply or beach sand that could ruin your nice tablet.
