Double Bass Where to Get Laborie Endpin Installed in LA Area

Does anyone know where in LA I could have the Laborie endpin installed? I read somewhere about a shop in Los Angeles, but have not been able to find the thread.

you're thinking about doing that too huh? have you asked all the luthiers around here? i'd start with someone like jon at world of strings.

i'm getting mine done when i go back to new york.

Why don't you track down Christoph Luty and ask him where he had his done. He's a big proponent and likes to talk about it. He's also a great bassist, nice guy and I suspect good teacher.

I couldn't find his info, but did find this on-line.

"Christoph is also interested in educating young bassists – he teaches jazz bass at California State University Long Beach, assists John Clayton at the University of Southern California, and teaches privately in his own studio."

John had it done to Ray Brown's bass and either he or Christoph said that they had it changed a bit after the first install. So, I'm guessing they have a lot of faith in whoever they use and would be happy to refer them.

you might ant to check out KC strings solution to this problem...seems like a way to do it without drilling another hole in your bass...

I've seen them done at World of Strings a few times, it's a fairly common mod these days.

I am going to start by calling Jon at World of Strings. Will let you know the outcome.

I had this done by Roberton's Violin Shop when they were at a conference I arrived in Tucson.

I just know I read here a while ago that some other shop in LA was installing these. I think it was in the Hollywood area but if World of Strings does this, that's fine.

I have been using the metal bent pins you can order from George Vance. They are really fine, and great to experiment with, as they are only around $25-30 for a custom made one, but I miss not having the Laborie.

Can get the Laborie done at World of Strings. Also, there are several types of endpins to choose from there, including one that has a removeable end so you can use the point into the floor.
