Where to you finish/refinish your basses?

I have always refinished my guitars/basses in my bedroom, securing bin bags all over the walls and floor etc. Ventilation has never been too much of a problem, got plenty of windows.

I've always thought, going ans doing it outside would be so much easier but have always been hesitant of things blowing onto the guitar while it is still wet. Saying that, I always sand down outside.

Anyone have any advice/experience of where to finish/refinish?

depends on what is being sprayed. Nitro and catalyzed poly: outside if there is no wind, I take the garden hose and wet the whole area to prevent stuff from being picked up,
or in the garage with all doors open, full respirator.

Wipe on poly and the like, water based lacquer: inside the garage, with windows open.

To be more specific, I have the choice of bedroom or garden.

I haven't told my landlord I do all of this DIY in the house. Regardless of where I do it, there is a fair amount of cons. I might do a test body outside, see what the crack is. As I live in the North of England, that would limit me to about 2 days of every year spraying!

Go into the bathroom, buy a hook from the hardware store and hang it over a tarp on the ground using some string through the neck bolt holes on the body, or if you have a neck attached, hang it from the tuning machine holes.

You could try to find a full spray booth:
