Which 5 string headstock tuner design do we like?

Doesn't matter to me. For Fender-style basses I prefer 4+1, because 5-inline is usually pretty cramped, especially with cloverleaf keys. One exception is the Benavente 51 model (left)... plenty of room there!

3 + 2 or 2 + 3. My only 4 + 1 is a Genesis Mod 5. I like a fairly compact headstock so 5-in-a-row is out of the question.

In general, I prefer 3+2. It's more compact thus less weight out on the end of the neck where it matters due to leverage.

Maybe it's just a matter of familiarity, but after 16 years with a 3+2 headstock, I strongly prefer it over other options.

I've got an Ibanez ATK as a backup at the moment, and the 2+3 arrangement is driving me batty. I also prefer the more streamlined look of headstock shapes with 3 on top...

I like 4+1 but does it really matter? I like some 3+2/2+3 basses too and I really don't think it would matter..

Interesting. I figured everyone would like the Sadowsky, Fender type 4+1 thing since they're such popular basses. The 3+2 thing is more popular than I thought.

I just picked up an ATK 305 in a trade with someone here on TB...

I agree, the 2+3 is awkward. It took me almost 5 minutes to tune it up the first time. I kept messing up the A and D strings. I much prefer the 3+2 arrangement (3 on top, two on bottom). I'm sure I could get used to it.

When it comes to 4 strings, I also like the looks of the Stingray style 3+1 best as well.
