Which 5 String Jazz Should I Get?

Yea sure but he didn't give any information about sound that he wants. Anyway If you want jazz bass always go with fender. Sx and others hurt my hand. I dont like their wood or others but fender is like designed for me. If I were you I would buy 5 string american deluxe-standard jazz bass. They are freakin' awesome. I used their rosewood standart one. I can clearly say we played Iron Maiden with that. Their neck pickup sound like p-bass when you play between neck and bridge pickup. Bridge pickup has amazing slap tone and both pickup usage let you have that supportive jazz bass tone. You should try one.

Upwards of 2k, though I could do a hair more. Sadowsky basses somewhat have my attention as I have never owned one before.
I love mine. It's been my only bass for about six years, which, if you notice where I work, speaks volumes :)

*Note: I do have another bass on the way, but I won't be getting rid of the Saddy.

The Fender US Deluxe is nice; I've had one since 2000, and can't imagine letting it go.
That being said, last year I picked up a Xotic XJ-1T, and the Fender is only getting practice room time now. I am loving the Xotic. And they are around $2k used. I highly recommend you consider it (alongside a Sadowsky).

Hey guys,

So between my tax return, yearly bonus, personal savings, and money earned from selling gear I have a little change in my pocket going jingle-ling-aling. I've grown to really like the tones of jazz basses, and I'm soon going to be in need of a new 5-string.

I was wondering which 5 string jazzes people suggest. I do think I'd prefer an active bass, and I like basses that can have low action on a relatively flat fingerboard. 35" or 34" are fine.

Price range: upwards of 2k and I don't mind buying used.

Thanks!
No one can really answer that question!! As buying a bass is as easy said then done! Allot go's into buying the perfect bass! as what mite be perfect for me mite not be for you! ( Vise versa) so my suggestion would be to find a music shop try out a few different ones then narrow it down to your 3 favorate! Sleep on it and decide from those 3!! take in consideration not only the sound but the feel/weight/34 vs 35 "/ bolt on V.S NT ect. gd luck!
For kicks here's my 2cents.. in the 2k + price range I would defenetly consider a used Sadowsky 5!
Gd luck! Happy gassing!!:)

But, the title of the thread is "which 5 string jazz should I get".

One thing to consider is if you have a preference where scale length is concerned. If you would prefer 35" then Sadowsky and Fender are out. Not sure whether or not Valenti offers 35". Solid body versus chambered is another factor that might be something to consider. You're not likely to get an NYC Sadowsky (second hand) for less than $3000 so that means a solid body Metro. Lulls are made both solid body and chambered. If you want the Sadowsky sound in a 35" then you could always put a Sadowsky preamp into a Lull. New I think Valentis are one of the best bargains out there (with wood options that you can't get from Sadowsky, Lull or Lakland).
