If he wants a Jazz bass, I'd think a MM is exactly the opposite of what he should get. My Stingray sounds nothing like my Jazz.I think you should get a mm bass. They are active basses and that have 5 string opinions. You should tell us about tone that you want.
I love mine. It's been my only bass for about six years, which, if you notice where I work, speaks volumesUpwards of 2k, though I could do a hair more. Sadowsky basses somewhat have my attention as I have never owned one before.
American Fender Jazz Vs are really nice basses. You could always add a pre later if you want to go active.
No one can really answer that question!! As buying a bass is as easy said then done! Allot go's into buying the perfect bass! as what mite be perfect for me mite not be for you! ( Vise versa) so my suggestion would be to find a music shop try out a few different ones then narrow it down to your 3 favorate! Sleep on it and decide from those 3!! take in consideration not only the sound but the feel/weight/34 vs 35 "/ bolt on V.S NT ect. gd luck!Hey guys,
So between my tax return, yearly bonus, personal savings, and money earned from selling gear I have a little change in my pocket going jingle-ling-aling. I've grown to really like the tones of jazz basses, and I'm soon going to be in need of a new 5-string.
I was wondering which 5 string jazzes people suggest. I do think I'd prefer an active bass, and I like basses that can have low action on a relatively flat fingerboard. 35" or 34" are fine.
Price range: upwards of 2k and I don't mind buying used.
Thanks!
But, the title of the thread is "which 5 string jazz should I get".Yea sure but he didn't give any information about sound that he wants. Anyway If you want jazz bass always go with fender. Sx and others hurt my hand. I dont like their wood or others but fender is like designed for me. If I were you I would buy 5 string american deluxe-standard jazz bass. They are freakin' awesome. I used their rosewood standart one. I can clearly say we played Iron Maiden with that. Their neck pickup sound like p-bass when you play between neck and bridge pickup. Bridge pickup has amazing slap tone and both pickup usage let you have that supportive jazz bass tone. You should try one.
There's just something about those trans white finishes with the inlays on maple fretboards that I love. Total class.at a $2k price point , you can get into a used Sadowsky ... ! my metro UV70 was $1,900 ... great bass ...
