Chris Stambaugh is doing work right now that makes people stand up and take notice.

I take nothing away from any other builders, if I didn't have a Valenti in the works, Chris would be the guy I would choose right now.

GW puts a lot into his basses, and he's close enough to me that I can go there while the build is in progress and make sure that the bass is holding up to spec.

If it were me, & cost was no issue... I'd get the Roscoe.

If cost WAS an issue, I'd try a Gecko.

If I wasn't a Smith ERB fanatic, Chris would be making my basses.
IME even his early work was tops in fit, finish, playability and tone. And at his prices, I think they are the absolute best buy in a custom bass bar none. IMHO of course.

Please continue with the pole, . . .realizing that the Roscoe will most likely not be purchased. If it were a natural finish rather than purple, . . . . I woud have purchased it by now!!

I'd highly suggest a bass from Chris Stambaugh. You can't go wrong with his service and the end result. I've never encountered an unhappy customer.

Of the names you've mentioned, I'd go with the Nordstrand. Carey is not only one amazing luthier, he's a nice guy besides.

I agree that Carey is an amazing bass builder and a great guy but his wait period is more like 2 1/2 years now. He's not even taking orders at this time.

Check out Bassmanbob's Roscoe SKB3006 in the Classifieds. His is a natural color, and has a very nice top and fretboard to boot. If my wife would allow it, it would be on its way to me right now.

Thanks guys for mentioning my Roscoe for sale. It's still available as of right now. Unfortunately, I can't think of a great name for it like the Angry Penis. I laughed for about a minute on that one. Yes. I voted Roscoe too.

Honestly, I haven't had the oportunity to play a Nordstrand, Stambaugh or a GW. I'd stay away from the Gecko, Warwick and Modulus. Just not for me.
